Thevenot Wins Morris Icebreaker
Ashley Thevenot's Saskatoon-based foursome won 4-0 over Kayla Skrlik in the Final of the Icebreaker. by Gerry Geurts After the departure of Skylar Ackerman to higher education goals, Thevenot moved from third to skip with her front end of Taylor Stremick and Kaylin Skinner intact and added Brittany Tran of Calgary to the lineup at third. Last year, the team with Ackerman at skip won the Viterra Scotties to represent Saskatchewan at the national championship in Calgary. The new lineup has come together quickly, with Thevenot going undefeated en route to their title win. Thevenot's record gave them hammer in the final against Skrlik and her Calgary-based team of Margot Flemming, Geri-Lynn Ramsay and Ashton Skrlik. Thevenot opened blanking the first four end, the game a scoreless draw at the halfway point. In the fifth end, Thevenot got on the scoreboard with a single point, following up with a two-point steal in the sixth end and one more in the seventh end, leading to the shut-out victory. Thevenot won 7-6 over Christine McMakin of Fargo in the semifinals, while Skrlik took an 11-6 decision from Kate Cameron of nearby St. Adolphe. Skrlik won 7-6 in the quarterfinals over Rachel Workin of Fargo and McMakin won 7-2 over Kristy Watling of Winnipeg. |
