 Chase Sinnett of Minneapolis won 4-2 over Chaska's Ethan Sampson in Icebreaker Final. by Gerry Geurts Sinnett, with Sam Strouse, Kevin Tuma and Connor Kaufman captured their opening event of the season, taking the all-American final at the Morris Curling Club in Morris, Manitoba. Home of the Cargill Curling Training Centre hosting by Lorne and Chris Hamblin, Morris has become one of the core facilities that opens early for summer ice and compeitions. Morris hosts the DEKALB Superspiel later in the season. Sampson, with Coleman Thurston, Jacob Zeman and Marius Kleinas in support opened with hammer, taking the pre-game draw to the button. Sampson opened the scoring with a single in the first end, with Sinnett taking a conservative approach from there. Sinnett blanked the next four ends, before being forced to take a single in the sixth end. After Sampson scored a single point in the seventh end, Sinnett came back with the first multi-point end in the final end, to take the 4-2 win. Sinnett won 5-4 over Sean Grassie in the semifinals, stealing a point for the win in the final end, while Sampson won 6-3 over Zach Norris of Morris. In the quarterfinals, Norris won 11-6 over Darryl Sobering of Denver, while Grassie won 6-2 over Winnipeg's Riley Smith. |
