Team Matt Dunstone (photo: Curling Canada) out of Winnipeg, Manitoba have secured the final pre-qualifying position for the Brier with 224 CTRS points. By Meredith McCullum With a 41-19 record, Team Dunstone - lead Ryan Harnden, second Colton Lott, third BJ Neufeld and skip Matt Dunstone - had a strong season last year. They finished second at the Pointsbet Invitational to kick the season off, made playoffs in three of the five Grand Slam of Curling events. With high rankings from the 2022-23 season - including a second place finish at the 2023 Brier - they had an automatic berth for the 2024 Brier and did not have to play in the Manitoba provincials. At the 2024 Brier, Team Dunstone finished third in their pool in Round Robin and qualified for playoffs with a win over fellow Manitoba team, Team Carruthers. In the 3v4 game, Dunstone came up just short of advancing with a 6-5 loss to the eventual runners up team McEwen. Although they had a solid Brier finish this year, Team Dunstone will be looking to get back to the finals at the 2025 Brier. With the championship taking place in Kelowna, Matt Dunstone - who is a resident of Kamloops, BC - will be a home favourite. Pre-qualifying for the Brier will allow Team Dunstone to once again prepare for the Brier without the pressure of a provincial championship looming overhead. They are looking to build off of a strong past few seasons and secure a first Brier title as a team and book a spot at the 2025 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials over the next year. |
