Jamie Koe Steals Final Pool B Playoff Position

Jamie Koe (Photo: Michael Burns, Curling Canada) emotional after Thursday afternoon's win, knowing how much it meant to their fans and how huge this moment is for curling in Canada's North. Northwest Territories has a chance to make history, should they make a deep run in the playoffs, and the players are all extremely proud of their performance so far.

After an unprecedented round robin, team Jamie Koe out of the Northwest Territories faced PEI's Tyler Smith in a winner-takes-all thriller. Smith scored a huge 3 points in the 8th end to take an advantage, but Koe fought back with a blank and a deuce to take the game to an extra, where they would pull off a steal and the win.

Team Koe won their first game over Quebec, then lost their second game in a brother vs brother match against Alberta's Kevin Koe. Northwest Territories would then win 3 in a row over Nova Scotia, Canada and Nunavut. They hit a bit of a road block on Wednesday, losing to Saskatchewan and then Alberta (Sluchinski), but they bounced back with a huge final win in round robin to carry momentum into the playoffs.

Team Koe, out of the YellowKnife Curling Club, consists of lead Shadrach McLeod, second Cole Parsons, third Glen Kennedy and skip Jamie Koe. Jamie Koe is playing in his 17th Brier of his career, this year marking his first trip to the playoff since a fourth place finish in 2012.

This same rink went 1-7 last year at the 2023 Brier, but have looked much stronger so far this year. Third Glen Kennedy has been outstanding all week, shooting 89 percent overall. His stats put him second overall among thirds, behind only his brother Marc Kennedy of team Bottcher.

With their third place finish after round robin, team Koe will have to wait to see who they play Friday evening. They will play one of the losers of the 1v2 seeding game, but who those teams are has yet to be determined.
