Following a rather lopsided victory against Amber Holland on Friday morning, Robyn Silvernagle's (Photo: CurlSask) rink is through to the third round of the B-Side at the 2023 Viterra Saskatchewan Scotties Provincial Championship in Estevan. By: Dylan Chenier After starting the tournament with two consecutive victories in the A-Side, Team Silvernage- with third Kelly Schafer, second Sherry Just, and lead Kara Thevenot- suffered a rather heavy-handed loss to Nancy Martin's rink from Martensville on Thursday night, which dropped the rink down to the B-Side of the tournament's triple knockout format. Silvernagle and the rest of her North Battleford-based rink did not let the sting from Thursday night's loss get to them, as the team took to the ice on Friday morning in a B-Side second-round matchup against Amber Holland. The 35-year-old skip got on the board in the first end with a single point after starting the game with the hammer. Team Holland responded in the second end with a single point of their own, tying things up at 1-1 early in the draw. Silvernagle's squad then retook the lead in the third end with the first deuce of the game. The 2019 Scotties bronze medalist would extend her lead in the fourth end with a steal of one. Amber Holland's team was not ready to give up yet, as the rink scored a much-needed two points in the fifth end, cutting Silvernagle's lead to one heading into the break. Up 4-3 coming back in six, Team Silvernagle was able to take full control of the game with an impressive score of four points, putting the team up 8-3. After a blank in the seventh end, Team Holland would fail to capitalize on hammer in eight, allowing Silvernagle to steal two more points. Down 10-3 with just two ends remaining, Team Holland would concede in the ninth, handing Silvernagle the victory. With the win, the team from North Battleford advances to the third round of the B-Side of the tournament bracket. On Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. ET, Team Silvernagle will face off against Regina's Lorraine Schneider for a spot in Saturday's B-Side qualifier. Schneider's team punched their ticket to the third round of the B-Side with an impressive 9-3 victory over Ashley Howard's squad on Friday morning. Following their losses on Friday, Teams Holland and Howard now drop to the C-Side of the tournament, where they will need to secure three consecutive victories in order to make the playoffs. The 2023 Vitera Scotties Provincial Championship continues through Sunday at Affinity Place in Estevan, SK. The championship finals are set for Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. ET.
