Playoff race heats up in Swift Current

On Saturday afternoon, Seungyoun Ha became the first women's team to secure a playoff spot at the 2022 S3 Group Curling Stadium Series event hosted by Sasktel Curling Stadium Swift Current.

With several draws in the books at this weekend's S3 Group Curling Stadium Series event in Swift Current, the playoff picture on the women's side is starting to come into focus. This afternoon, South Korea's Seungyoun Ha secured the first of eight quarterfinals spots, with a 7-2 victory over Winnipeg's Kristy Watling.

After starting the game off on the wrong foot by giving up a steal of two in the first end, Team Ha would go on to control the rest of the draw, starting with a deuce in the second end. The rink from Chuncheon stole two points in the fourth end, and two more in the fifth. A steal of one in the sixth was all Ha needed to take the victory, ultimately winning the draw 7-2.

The South Koreans will enjoy a long rest ahead of the women's quarterfinals on Sunday night at 7:30 PM MT. Team Ha is looking for their second consecutive victory of the season after the squad took home the title at the 2022 CURVE US Open of Curling in Blaine, Minnesota last month.

With their loss, Team Watling now drops to the B-Side of the triple knockout format, where they will face either Sayaka Yoshimura or Amelie Blais in a third-round matchup on Sunday morning. Yoshimura and Blais will first meet in the second round of the B-Side, with that draw set for Saturday evening at 8:30 PM MT.

Meanwhile, Saskatoon's Skylar Ackerman defeated hometown rivals Team Sherry Anderson in the other A-Side qualifier on Saturday afternoon, securing a spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-4 victory. Anderson will drop to the B-Side where her rink faces either Ashley Howard or Sherillee Orsted.

The women's side of the S3 Group Curling Stadium Series event, hosted by Sasktel Curling Stadium Swift Current, continues Saturday evening with two B-Side second-round draws set for 4:30 PM MT. Fans can watch live coverage of every draw through Curling Stadium, with the platform providing live streams of every single sheet inside the Swift Current Curling Club.

Select draws are also available to stream through CBC Sports.

This weekend's event in Swift Current continues through Thanksgiving Monday, with the women's final set for 4:00 PM MT. 16 teams are taking part in the tournament, with the winning rink set to take home $2,400.
