Mouat remains perfect in Tahoe
![]() The world number one (Photo: Anil Mungal/GSOC) continue to cruise as they eye back-to-back Slam titles. By: Cameron Sallaj The KIOTI GSOC Tahoe, the first Grand Slam held outside of Canada, has been more of the same for the reigning world champions as Bruce Mouat and his Scottish quartet have clinched their playoff berth with a Thursday night victory over Niklas Edin. After defeating Marc Muskatewitz (Fuessen, GER) 7-6 and Mike McEwen (Saskatoon, SK) 6-1 to sit 2-0, Mouat came out firing against the reigning Olympic champions, forcing Edin into a precise freeze against four with the game on the line. With a runback for five, Mouat's stone undercurled and did not remove the Swedish counter, resulting in just one. In the second, Edin attempted a soft weight tap for two to vault his team into the lead, however, wrecked on a long guard and gave up a steal. The Swedes bounced back in the third with a deuce to level the score at two all. A relatively open house in the fourth end allowed Bruce Mouat to regain his two-point lead with a draw to the full twelve. This was followed by singles scored by both teams in ends five and six with Edin taking another point in seven. Heading into eight, Mouat held a 5-4 lead and retained the crucial last rock. Facing one on his last rock, Mouat made no mistake on the open hit, taking two to defeat Edin 7-4 in a 2022 Olympic final rematch. With the win, Mouat now moves to 3-0 with a full three points for each of his wins, joining Brad Jacobs, Yannick Schwaller and Matt Dunstone who all sit atop their respective pools. The Scottish lads will have one final round robin game against Team Jared Allen, being skipped by Wayne Middaugh, at 7:30 PM PT before heading into the quarterfinals Saturday as one of the top seeds.
