By Cameron Sallaj History was made in Draw 4 of the mixed doubles competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics as Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill secured Estonia's first ever win in Olympic curling. After starting the tournament 0-2, the former number one ranked team in the world needed a win to keep themselves on track to qualify. In Draw 4, Kaldvee and Lill went up against 2024 world champion siblings Isabella and Rasmus Wrana of Sweden, a team that won both of their opening games. After giving up a single in the first, momentum quickly swung the Estonian's way as they put three on the board to take an early lead. The third end saw the Swedes tie the score with a deuce of their own, however, Estonia regained control of the game with back-to-back-to-back singles in ends four, five and six, opening up a 6-3 lead. The game was far from over though, as the Wrana's got two back in the seventh to tighten the score to 6-5 coming home. With the hammer shot in the final frame, Marie Kaldvee drew her stone into the four-foot circle to count one and secure Estonia's first-ever Olympic curling win, 7-5 the final score. Coming into the 2025-26 season ranked number one in the world, the Estonian pair have struggled compared to past years, now only ranked 15th. On tour, they have only managed to qualify in three of ten events and have not reached any finals. Despite this, their experience in the mixed doubles discipline coupled with their repeated international success make them a top contender to qualify for the playoffs in Cortina. With their first win officially in the books, Estonia will turn their focus to their next game Friday against reigning Olympic champions Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner of Italy. They will then face Norway and Canada on Saturday before closing out the round robin against South Korea, the United States, and Czechia.
