Howard Slides to 3-1 Record
![]() Ontario's Scott Howard (Photo: Peter Oleskevich/Curling Canada) defeated Ontario's Mark Kean 6-3 to advance to a 3-1 record at the Canadian Olympic Pre-Trials in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. By Connor Simms, #34 World-Ranked Scott Howard, with Mathew Camm at third, Jason Camm and Scott Chadwick on the front end, and coach Glenn Howard, are proving their veteran presence early this week. This season, they missed the playoffs in two of their three events to date. They were quarterfinalists at the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard. This week, they are competing for the final spot at the Canadian Olympic Trials in Halifax in November. Jason will make his pre-trials debut this week. Scott looks for redemption from last quad, just missing out on making the big event, losing the finals with Glenn as skip. Matt and Scott both competed at the 2021 Trials, with skip John Epping and Tanner Horgan. In their fourth game, they took on provincial rival Mark Kean. Howard won the opening game, drawing to the button for the hammer. Starting with the hammer, Howard scored 2 in the first end, then forced Kean to a single in the second end. After a blank end, Howard scored a single in the fourth end, then forced Kean to a single in the fifth end. Howard scored a single in the sixth end. After a blank end, Howard stole 2 in the eighth end, then forced Kean to a single in the ninth end for the 6-3 victory. In their opening game, Howard defeated Jayden King (London, ON) 9-4, then won 12-5 against Owen Purcell (Halifax, NS). Howard went on to lose 5-4 against Sam Mooibroek (Whitby, ON). In their next game, Howard plays Jean-Michel Menard (Amos, QC) on Wednesday at 2:00 pm Atlantic Time (AT). They then wrap up the round robin on Thursday with Jordon McDonald (Winnipeg, MB) at 9:00 am AT and Braden Calvert (Winnipeg, MB) at 2:00 pm AT. The format for this event is an 8-team round-robin, with each team playing everybody once. The top team at the end of the round robin will get a spot in the final, while the second and third seeds will play in a semi-final. From there, the winner of the 2v3 game and the top seed will face off in a best two-of-three final. The winner will move on to play in the 2025 Canadian Olympic Trials in November.
