By Connor Simms, #13 World-Ranked Brad Gushue, with Mark Nichols at third, Brendan Bottcher and Geoff Walker on the front end, has all eyes on them as Gushue enters his final season of competitive curling. Last Thursday, Brad announced his retirement from competitive curling at the end of the 2025-2026 season. This marks the end of the 2006 Olympic Champions' legendary career. Brad and Mark have played together since the 1999-2000 season, with a slight break from 2011-2014 when Mark went to play in Manitoba with Jeff Stoughton. Geoff joined Gushue in 2012 and has been with him ever since. In this time, the three of them won multiple championships, including six Brier titles, an Olympic Bronze Medal, and the 2017 World Champions. Gushue alone is the most winning skip in Canadian Brier history, with six titles. The skips that are behind him at second with four titles include: Ernie Richardson, Kevin Martin, Randy Ferbey and Kevin Koe. Gushue is also third at the skip position in Grand Slam of Curling titles with 15, sitting behind Kevin Martin and Glenn Howard. Last season, Gushue brought on Brendan Bottcher at the second position. They came third at the 2025 Montana Brier in their first season together. They look ahead to this season for the 2025 Olympic Trials in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where they look to represent Canada at the 2026 Cortina Olympics. It will be a storybook ending for Gushue, as his final event of competitive curling will be in his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2026 Montana Brier. Gushue will kick off their final season at the AMJ Masters in London, Ontario. This is a 16-team event with pools of four. The top-8 teams will then advance to the playoffs. Their first game will be at 8:00 pm Newfoundland Time (NT) on Tuesday against Italy's Joel Retornaz. On Wednesday, they play China's Xiao Ming Xu at 1:00 pm NT. On Thursday, they play Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller at 1:00 pm NT. Their last round robin game will be on Friday against a to be determined opponent as that will be determined by the result of their first three games.
