![]() Alberta's Brad Jacobs (Photo: Okotoks Curling Club) defeated Minnesota's John Shuster 5-4 to go a perfect 6-0, winning the ATB Okotoks Classic in Okotoks, Alberta. By Connor Simms, #3 World-Ranked Brad Jacobs with Marc Kennedy at third, Brett Gallant, and Ben Hebert on the front end, go perfect in the first event of the season. This was their first event of the season. Jacobs finished 3-0 in the 22-team triple knockout event. In their opening game, Jacobs defeated Saskatchewan's Carl deConinck Smith 7-4, then won 8-5 against Alberta's Jacob Libbus and 6-2 against Manitoba's Reid Carruthers in their A-qualifier match. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Libbus 9-1, then defeated Carruthers 7-2 in the semi-finals. They then faced Minnesota's John Shuster in the final. Jaocbs started with the hammer due to them qualifying on the A-Side. After a blank in the first end, Jacobs found their deuce in the second end, drawing to the four-foot. Shuster was forced in the third end, making a hit and roll onto the button against two. Shuster tied the game in the fourth with a steal of one, after Jacobs was forced to play off a wide guard, but was unable to get it. In the fifth end, Jacobs got their second deuce, making a double on his last. The shot-making continued in the sixth, with Shuster making a run double for their deuce to tie the game at four. Jacobs got a blank in the seventh, taking the hammer into the last end tied. Jaocbs was able to make the draw to the four-foot on his last for their single point and the 5-4 victory. Jacobs secured themselves 40.5 World-Ranking points. solidifying their place in third. In front of them are Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller and Scotland's Bruce Mouat. Their next event will be at the AMJ Masters in London, Ontario, from September 23rd-28th. |
