By: Cameron Sallaj After narrowly squeaking into the field at the 2025 AMJ Players' Championship as the twelfth and final seed, Isabella Wrana and her Swedish squad are settling in as they try to qualify for the final for a third straight year. On Tuesday, the team of Wrana, Almida de Val, Maria Larsson and Linda Stenlund dropped a 7-5 decision to Kim Eun-jung in Draw 3. Looking to even their record, they faced Xenia Schwaller of Switzerland in a battle of two teams both ranked second in their countries. It wasn't an ideal start for the Swedes as Schwaller and her reigning world junior champions managed a steal in the opening end. This was quickly forgotten, however, as Wrana played a masterful second to put a big score of five on the board and giving themselves a lead they would not relinquish. The Swiss attempted to claw back into the game with singles in three and five, though their efforts would be in vain with Wrana counting three more in the sixth to put the game to bed early, 8-3 the final score. It's been a quite good season for Team Wrana who reached the playoffs in nine of twelve events played. In these nine playoff appearances, they won two titles in Basel and Sundbyberg but also lost out in the quarterfinals on four occasions. The team has also had high variance in Slam results, reaching one semifinal, one quarterfinal, and missing the playoffs twice. Having evened their record to 1-1, the young Swedish side will next take on Team Rachel Homan (1-1; Ottawa, ON) Wednesday night at 7:30 pm ET. Team Wrana was on the bench as Team Homan's coaches for the Battle of the Sexes match Monday and will now take on the two-time defending champions. Schwaller, now 0-2, is in desperate need of a win and will look to get the ball rolling against Team Kerri Einarson (1-0; Gimli, MB) Thursday at 8 am ET. In other scores, Team Anna Hasselborg (2-0; Sundbyberg, SWE) doubled up on Team Ha Seung-youn (1-1; Chuncheon, KOR) 6-3; Team Yannick Schwaller (2-0; Geneva, SUI) fended off Team Marc Muskatewitz (0-2; Fuessen, GER) 5-3 and Team Brad Jacobs (1-1; Edmonton, AB) took one in an extra to bounce Team Brad Gushue (1-1; St. John's, NL) 5-4. The next draw from the 2025 AMJ Players' Championship gets underway at 11:30 am ET with streaming of every game available on HomeTeamLive. |
