The 2025-2026 season is full of World/Olympic qualifiers in USA Curling. The first one is wrapped up on Sunday, where they determined the 2025 Pan Continental Team. This was the inaugural Pan Continental qualifier event, as in the past, USA Curling sent the previous World Championship team. This was a double round-robin event with three teams. The three teams were decided by the already qualified teams for the 2025 Olympic Trials. This included the three teams are Tabitha Peterson, Delaney Strouse and Elizabeth Cousins (Nashua, NH). On the men's side, the three teams are John Shuster (Chaska, MN), Korey Dropkin (Duluth, MN) and Daniel Casper (Chaska, MN). The winning team was gonna be determined by the best record after the round robin. However, all three teams on the women's side finished with a 2-2 record, forcing tiebreakers on Sunday. Peterson got the bye to the final tiebreaker game due to having the best draw to the button score. After Strouse defeated Cousins in the first tiebreaker, they were set to face Peterson in the final. After a blank in the first, Peterson nosed her blank attempt in the second end, settling for a single. Similar setups in the third and fourth end, with Strouse having to make doubles to score; however, she just missed both, giving back-to-back steals. With a potential tap for four, Strouse just wrecked on the guard, settling for their single point. Peterson found themselves with the first deuce of the game, making the open hit and stick. Strouse responded with a double in the seventh end for a deuce of their own. In the end, Peterson was able to run Strouse out of stones to grab a 5-3 victory. With that win, Peterson will represent the USA at the 2025 Pan Continental in Virginia and Eveleth, Minnesota, in mid-October. On the Men's side, Shuster went a perfect 4-0, claiming their spot on Saturday evening. |
