![]() Saskatchwan's Rylan Kleiter grabbed the title of the Curling Stadium Speedy Creek Shootout with an 8-3 victory over Manitoba's Jordan McDonald. By Connor Simms Rylan Kleiter with Joshua Mattern at third, Matthew Hall and Trevor Johnson on the front end pretty much locked in his Montana's Trials spot in Halifax, Nova Scotia (still to be announced by Curling Canada) with a strong event in Swift Current. They took on Manitoba's Jordan McDonald in the final, starting with the hammer due to their better round-robin record. After a blank in the first end, Kleiter was able to grab their deuce, drawing to eight foot. Kleiter added one more after McDonald just missed an off the boards in off in the third end. McDonald found the scoreboard in the fourth, making the draw to the eight foot for two. Kleiter was quick respond in the fifth, drawing to the button for their single. McDonald was unable to find a deuce in the sixth having to settle for their single point with a draw to the side of the four foot. The hands came out in the seventh end after Kleiter added three more to their total making a nose hit and grabbing the 8-3 victory. Kleiter finished 4-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. In their opening game, Kleiter defeated Josh Bryden (Regina, SK) 4-2, then won 7-5 against Wouter Gosgens (Zoetermeer, NED) and 9-3 against Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN). Kleiter won 8-3 against JaeBeom Lee (Uiseong, KOR). Kleiter went on to lose 9-4 against Xu in their final qualifying round match. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Saskatchewan's Steve Laycock 10-3, then continued with a win in the semi-finals over Alberta's Jacobs Libbus 7-6. This marks Kleiters third event win this season, grabbing wins at the Hearing Life Tour Challenge Tier 2 and the Sasktel Tankard. his marks the end of Kleiter's impressive season, making playoffs nine times, grabbing their first career grand slam win and qualifying for the Canadian Curling Trials in the Fall (still to be announced by Curling Canada). |
