Japan's Sae Yamamoto won 7-4 over Moa Dryburgh (Sundbyberg, SWE) in the Final of the World Junior Curling Championships, held May 15 - 22, 2022 in Jonkoping, Sweden. To advance to the championship game, Japan's Sae Yamamoto won 7-3 over Delaney Strouse (Minneapolis, USA) in the semifinals of the 2022 World Junior Curling Championships in Jonkoping, Sweden;
Japan's Sae Yamamoto finished 6-3 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Japan's Sae Yamamoto defeated Korea's Bobae Kang 9-6, then went on to lose 10-3 against Evelina Barone (Riga, LAT). Japan's Sae Yamamoto lost 9-8 to Strouse where Japan's Sae Yamamoto responded with a 7-4 win over Fay Henderson (Stirling, SCO). Japan's Sae Yamamoto won 6-4 against Karolina Jensen (Hvidovre, DEN), then won 8-1 against Dryburgh and 10-5 against Norway's Eirin Mesloe. Japan's Sae Yamamoto went on to lose 6-5 against Xenia Schwaller (Biel, SUI). Japan's Sae Yamamoto responded with a 6-5 win over Isabelle Ladouceur (Sudbury, CAN) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the World Junior Curling Championships Championship title, Japan's Sae Yamamoto earned 33.345 world rankings points. For week 43 of the event schedule, Japan's Sae Yamamoto did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Japan's Sae Yamamoto ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
