Gunnlaugson finished 5-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gunnlaugson defeated Wayne Fleming (Tempe, AZ) 10-1, then won 8-5 against Andrew Symonds (St. John's, NL) and 6-4 against Jordan Chandler (Manitoulin, NONT).
