Gunnlaugson finished 2-0 in the 12 team Cargill Curling Training Centre Icebreaker qualifying round, held August 23 - 25, 2019 at the Morris Curling Club in Morris, Canada. In their opening game, Gunnlaugson defeated Ross LaVallee (Winnipeg, MB) 11-2, then won 9-4 against Jed Brundidge (St. Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Cargill Curling Training Centre Icebreaker Championship title, Gunnlaugson earned 27.203 world rankings points along with the $2,230CDN first prize cheque. Gunnlaugson move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 24.314 points improving upon their best 2 results so far this season, ranking 17th overall with 236.855 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Gunnlaugson ranks 3rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 41.828 points earned so far this season.
