Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) won 7-3 over Brad Gushue (St. John's, CAN) in the Final of the World Mens Curling Championship, held March 30 - April 8, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Edin finished 11-1 in the 13-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Edin defeated Alexander Baumann (Baden-Baden, GER) 6-5, then won 7-3 against Marc Pfister (Adelboden, SUI) and 5-2 against Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED). Edin won 7-6 against Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO), then won 5-4 against Kim and 7-2 against Rich Ruohonen (Seattle, USA). Edin went on to lose 5-3 against Steffen Walstad (Oppdal, NOR). Edin responded with a 9-4 win over Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA). Edin won 10-2 against De Jia Zou (Harbin, CHN), then won 7-3 against Alexey Timofeev (Moscow, RUS) and 6-5 against Gushue. Edin won 7-3 against Masaki Iwai (Hokkaido, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the World Mens Curling Championship Championship title, Edin earned 67.646 world rankings points, remaining in 1st place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of -992.775 after improving upon their best so far this season. Edin ranks 2nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 479.524 points earned so far this season.
