Muirhead finished 4-2 in the 24 team Colonial Square Ladies Classic qualifying round, held September 16 - 19, 2016 at the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon, Canada. In their opening game, Muirhead defeated Stefanie Lawton (Saskatoon, SK) 5-4, then won 5-3 against Alina Paetz (Zurich, SUI). Muirhead went on to lose 8-4 against Anna Hasselborg (Sundbyberg, SWE). Muirhead lost 6-4 to Sigfridsson where Muirhead responded with a 6-5 win over Nancy Martin (Saskatoon, SK). Muirhead won 8-4 against Jolene Campbell (Regina, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Colonial Square Ladies Classic, Muirhead take home 47.866 world rankings points along with the $8,000CDN prize, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 4th place overall with 392.574 total points. Muirhead ranks 3rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 87.425 points earned so far this season.
