In their opening game, Doering lost 8-3 to John Shuster (Duluth, MN), then responded with a 8-2 win over Randy Baird (Bemidji, MN). Doering won 7-3 against Kevin Kakela (Rolla, ND). Doering went on to lose 6-4 against Al Hackner (Thunder Bay , NONT). Doering lost 7-3 to North Dakota's Scott Brown in their final qualifying round match.
