Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA) won 6-5 over Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the Final of the KIOTI National, held November 7 - 12, 2023 in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. To advance to the championship game, Retornaz won 6-5 over Brendan Bottcher (Calgary, AB) in the semifinals of the 2023 KIOTI National in Pictou County, Nova Scotia; and won 10-3 over Korey Dropkin (Duluth, MN) in the quarterfinals.
 
Retornaz finished 4-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Retornaz defeated Riku Yanagisawa (Karuizawa, JPN) 7-4, then won 6-3 against Dropkin and 4-2 against Bruce Mouat (STIRLING, SCO). Retornaz won 7-4 against Yannick Schwaller (Geneve, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the KIOTI National Championship title, Retornaz earned 75.000 world rankings points along with the $42,000CDN first prize cheque. Retornaz move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 31.031 points improving upon their best 5 results so far this season, ranking 1st overall with 420.500 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Retornaz ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 244.625 points earned so far this season.
