De Cruz finished 4-0 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, De Cruz defeated Noe Traub (Basel, SUI) 10-1, then won 9-5 against Daniel Magnusson (Karlstad, SWE) and 5-4 against Glen Muirhead (Perth, SCO). De Cruz won 7-1 against Mouat in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Swiss Cup Basel Championship title, De Cruz earned 52.014 world rankings points along with the $16,080CDN first prize cheque.
