Matthew Hall (Kitchener-Waterloo, ON) lost 9-7 to Tyler Tardi (Langley, BC) in the Final of the Canadian Junior Mens Championship, held January 21 - 29, 2017 in Victoria, British Columbia. To advance to the championship game, Hall won 7-6 over Tanner Horgan (Copper Cliff, NONT) in the semifinals of the 2017 Canadian Junior Mens Championship in Victoria, British Columbia;
Hall finished 6-3 in the 13-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hall defeated Horgan 7-4, then won 10-5 against Rylan Kleiter (Saskatoon, SK). Hall went on to lose 5-4 against Tardi. Hall lost 6-5 to Matthew Manuel (Halifax, NS) where Hall responded with a 13-1 win over Arthur Siksik (Iqaluit, NU). Hall won 6-3 against Colton Goller (Calgary, AB), then won 9-4 against Liam Marin (Saint John, NB) and 6-5 against JT Ryan (Winnipeg, MB). Hall went on to lose 5-4 against Tyler Smith (Charlottetown, PEI) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Canadian Junior Mens Championship, Hall take home 16.610 world rankings points. For week of the event schedule, Hall did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Hall ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
