Thomas finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thomas defeated Minnesota's Todd Birr 7-2, then went on to lose 7-5 against Manitoba's Daley Peters. Thomas responded with a 6-5 win over Korey Dropkin (Blaine, USA). Thomas went on to lose 8-4 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Thomas responded with a 8-3 win over Minnesota's Todd Birr. Thomas won 7-6 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO), then won 8-2 against Mark Kean (Stoney Creek, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
