Thomas finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thomas defeated Minnesota's Todd Birr 7-2, then went on to lose 7-5 against Manitoba's Daley Peters. Thomas responded with a 6-5 win over Korey Dropkin (Blaine, USA). Thomas went on to lose 8-4 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Thomas responded with a 8-3 win over Minnesota's Todd Birr. Thomas won 7-6 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO), then won 8-2 against Mark Kean (Stoney Creek, ON) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the DEKALB Superspiel, Thomas take home 36.632 world rankings points along with the $6,500CDN prize, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 15th place overall with 242.957 total points.
