Howard went on to lose 10-9 against Sven Michel (Adelboden, SUI). Howard responded with a 6-5 win over Mark Dacey (Halifax, NS). Howard won 8-4 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the The Syncrude National Championship title, Howard earned 40.000 world rankings points along with the $24,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 2nd place overall with 428.530 total points. Howard ranks 3rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 195.000 points earned so far this season.
