Johnson finished 5-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Johnson defeated Doug Rae (Edmonton, AB) 7-1, then won 5-4 against Mike Jantzen (Calgary, AB) and 7-1 against Claudio Pescia (St. Galler, SUI). Johnson went on to lose 5-3 against Switzerland's Markus Eggler. Johnson responded with a 6-4 win over Wade White (Edmonton, AB). Johnson won 6-4 against Warren Hassall (Lloydminster, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Johnson earned 8.310 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Red Deer Curling Classic. For week of the event schedule, Johnson did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Johnson ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
