7-3 to Chris Schille (Edmonton, AB), then responded with a 8-5 win over Tom Buchy (Kimberley, BC). Hassall won 9-3 against Rob Krepps (Edmonton, AB), then won 6-5 against Joel Jordison (Moose Jaw, SK). Hassall went on to lose 7-3 against Steve Mackey (Calgary, AB). Hassall responded with a 6-5 win over Lloyd Heller (Medicine Hat, AB). Hassall went on to lose 8-5 against Brad Heidt (Kerrobert, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Hassall earned 2.750 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins.
