Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, Gushue finished 3-2 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated John Epping (Brampton, ON) 7-4, then went on to lose 8-2 against Martin Ferland (Trois-Rivières, QC). Gushue lost 8-2 to Glenn Howard (Coldwater, ON) where Gushue responded with a 6-3 win over Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB). Gushue won 7-6 against Greg McAulay (Richmond, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
