Point is ..... That some posters on this thread are making it look like Mike is not deserving to go to the briar. I'm happy to see him go and will be pulling for him to win. I'm expecting to be watching excellent curling in the final.

at the end of the day i cant be upset that mike is finally going to a brier. thats the best story of the year, no matter what happens.
if he loses ..its nothing special with this situation, its just how i feel that the winner should always go
dunstone cant help the situation. the schedule is what it is
i wont watch the whole thing, because like i said, for me its like watching a tape delayed game when you already know the outcome, its just not fun. but i might track on live score and tune in for the end just to see mcewen and team celebrate and hopefully win and lift the trophy. im sure mike will go all out, he has dreamed of actually lifting that trophy for a long time and i'd like to see him be able to do it

Lets talk about how Mike must feel?
I am sure he feels great to be going to the brier, but he doesn't have that pressure to play his best, he doesn't get to throw the last brick for the win and the team celebrating on the ice, in true fashion. I know he deserves to go to the brier, but he also must have mixed emotions.
Oh did any other team go through undefeated?? At least he can keep that in his mind.
Have a great brier Mike and boys!

Yes it should be a good one. I actually still think Mike will have a bit of pressure on him. He doesn't want to be the asterisked curler at the Brier. I think the whole conversation is likely moot anyway. He's been the best team over the last couple of days and he has the hammer. It would be a significant upset if he's beaten.
I know what Dunstone has said repeatedly about his allegiance to the World Junior's. But who knows, if the team wins this thing I assume they still have the chance to change their minds, as unlikely as that would be.

Just on that "better event" note, reminds me of the recent NHL all star affair which had become a total farce and no longer of interest to the fan/viewer public. Along came John Scott through strange circumstances and deemed stupid league/team executives who did not know what to do and didn't want to be embarrassed. Ultimately he turned out to be the main reason for the most successful, including viewership, all star event in many years.

Let's look at the positive side of this. There is now a 3rd very solid team in Manitoba who could hold their own at the Brier. Dunstone could easily make it in the playoffs at The Brier. I'm sure Dunstone will want to his feet wet and compete in a fair number of touring events next year.
Now let's see if McEwen can capitalize of finally getting to the Brier and win it.

Agree Misty. I wonder if any other countries have had issues with this conflict of events? (Men or Women). Remember how dominant Eve Muirhead was as a Junior. I wonder if her nationals conflicted. I wonder if this is the first time it has happened. Youth is coming into the fore - for REAL.

Mike is having to work hard this afternoon on what is essentially a practice game for both teams. Glad to see it.

Whatever legend. Just like you to try and attach yourself to someone else's accomplishments. Bet you never threw a single stone with McEwan ' s dad.

What a great finish to the game! A feel good storyline to be sure! Congrats to Team Dunstone for a great run and to Team McEwen for persevering! Looking forward to the highlight of my year....the Scotties and the Brier.

1. McEwen/Jacobs/Koe/Gushue
and very closely behind....
2. Simmons/Laycock/Howard
and further away...
3. Casey/Cotter/Menard
and the long shot category...
4. Everyone else
I'd look for good gambling opportunities when the top 2 groups compete (they are so close that the team with hammer will be around 58% to win, perhaps adjusting a few points based on Group 1 or 2 and their form at the event)
Group 3 could provide some nice upsets, if money looks good.
If the directional sweeping continues, look for the under in most games.

its very hard to know where to place menard. on his best days he can beat any of the teams you would list as a favorite. problem is he's so up and down you never know what you will get.
he can contend for a playoff spot for sure if he is in his best form.i'd say 7-4 is not outside the realm of possibility for him..maybe even 8-3 but 7-4 is far more likely.
id say howard, mcewen, jacobs, koe and gushue are the top 5 closely followed by menard, simmons and laycock
the other teams will be lucky to finish above 500
im gonna go out on a limb and say simmons misses the playoffs all together and one of those top 5 has to as well..im gonna go with gushue
