I read a story where he said he thinks one of the other Russian men who didn’t make the team slipped him something in his drinks at their Japan holding camp just before the event.

Why would a player that didn't make the team be with the team pre event. That is a Trumpian level excuse.

This, right here.

Think about it, curling is the longest Olympic Competition per medal event.

Even in mixed (shorter than 4's), the medaling teams played 9 2 hour long games, that's 18 hours of effort to win their medal.

Yes, it's not like it's 100% cardio effort every second of that time (or even most seconds), but it is stop/start cycling (which is physically taxing), uneven schedules (physically taxing), stressful mental situations (physically taxing), the list goes on.

Frankly, some PED's would likely be *more* beneficial in curling than other sports *during the run of the competition*.

No, no ...I have it on good authority that it was Ben Johnson and he slipped something into Krushelnitsky's "Sarsaparilla and Ginseng" drink.

During the men's game last night, or early this am, they said the B result would be in 5 hours. It's been 12. Anyone hear any updates?

I've read that the B sample tested positive for meldonium too.

The specific levels determined in the lab tests would be telling. While meldonium has an initial half-life of 4-6 hours, detectable levels remain in the body for up to 60-90 days after dosing. The therapeutic dosage is very high, 1500-2000 mg per day. It can be used for about 4-6 weeks, then its effects wane, and you need to take a break before getting a therapeutic benefit again. Meldonium is an inhibitor of carnitine biosynthesis, which has complex indirect effects on glucose metabolism that can temporarily improve cellular energy production. This would of course benefit any athlete.

The amount found in the athlete sample would likely give a clue to the possible timing of therapeutic dosing.

During the Sharapova (tennis) doping scandal, I read numerous posts from reputable eastern European people that meldonium is a very common over-the-counter medication, as common as Vitamin C would be over here. I have no sympathy for the Russian curler though as, whether the medication is innocuous or not, there's no good reason for him not knowing that it was banned a year ago and that its ingestion had caused a lot of grief for many athletes from various sports and he had to stay far away from it.

They should let China also at 4-3 with Norway and Russia play for the bronze.

That's why I said should. China got screwed. I do hope they ban Russia for the next Olympics, no matter what they call themselves
