Burger King Brier?
So - will Burger King take over sponsorship of the Brier?

As far as I know (if the sale goes through), the intent isn't for Burger King to eliminate the Tim Hortons brand from existence. I think McDonald's used to own TH too, and they let it be. Same principle applies here.
But I'll admit that what I know isn't much. And TH must really be hurting badly to consider this.

It was Wendy's before they spun them off again into their own company.
Timmy's is going to be run separately from BK... so I wouldn't expect any changes in the brand going forward. I think it was more of a case on how to market the brand outside of Canada, since, to be honest, Tim Horton's is getting close to saturating the market in Canada.
Whether the new ownership group continues on with it's sponsorship or not, that remains to be seen.
(And the new ownership group is notorious for cutting costs... and in Canada, does Timmy's need to sponsor anything really?)

I heard that BK bought Tim's to be able to take advantage of Canadian Corporate Tax Laws.
Either way, BK would be stupid to touch the branding.

There is that too, even though the savings for them isn't all that much (maybe 8-10 million difference). But Tim's was in it for BK's expertise in foreign markets.
There is a finite number of places left for Tim's to expand in Canada, and they haven't fared well stateside so... kind of makes sense for them too.
I doubt that BK would screw up the brand, but they may change marketing and things like that. It remains to be seen what happens next.

Just another tidbit from a professional marketer at the curling summit ....
People will support those who support "my"causes
Timmy's is involved in lots of causes. Messing with their sponsorship could be very dangerous to their bottom line in Canada

I don't see BK messing up TH's sponsorship structure...that would be seen as unwise and butting in. However, I could see BK gettimg itself involved with the Brier in a secondary mode with minor signs next to the scoreboard amd/or in the ice. But TH keeps its top billing.
Hey, BK owns it now, might as well get a little exposure.

BK is owned by a Brazilian corporation called 3G Capital. Their bottom line is making $ by cutting costs no matter how small. They purchased Heinz not so long ago and the first thing they did was close the plant in Leamington. There was an excellent CBC radio interview last week. One of the things they order is to change fonts on exec computers to save ink.
So you really think that they will be hands off? Control of Tim's is now in Brazil.

In 2013, Burger King paid an effective corporate tax rate of 27.5% in the US
In 2013, Tim Horton's paid a corporate tax of 26.5% in Ontario, and 31% corporate tax on earnings in Nova Scotia and PEI.
Burger King will be paying more corporate tax in Canada than they actually paid in the US.
Canada also has far more regulation than there is in the US.

Because coffee is, frankly...coffee....
The market of people drinking it for *taste* is vanishingly small, you ain't making bank off of them anyhow, as they are going to cling towards their hole in the wall place with hand roasted individually picked Sumatran Double cut beans individually chosen by the guy that did the Fine Corinthian Leather commercials back in the 80's.
On the other hand, the market of people drinking it for *the buzz* (caffeine being about the only socially acceptable addiction left in the USA) is large and dramatic.
However, the USA already has Dunkin and Starbucks...and between them, they have outlets on every corner (and, actually, in some large towns like NYC, 2 outlets at some corners, since they've determined that folks won't cross the street for coffee).
