It was an exciting finish. Congrats to Carruthers and Courtney - National Champs. Very interesting to listen to the chemistry of the curlers. I think Morris and Shuster have similar chattiness - mind on sleeve - but in this sport it is important. Homan was quite assertive but it isn't easy to disagree when time is of the essence. Two skips versus Skip and Second makes for very different banter.

ML - I saw a bit of the game and was sure I'd seen Carruthers playing alongside Jo. I may be wrong.

The advantage Jo had was that she did not have to put up with constant nonsensical blabber from her mixed doubles partner. Rachel would call for John to sweep and he wouldn't. She'd call him off and he'd keep sweeping. She'd say line was perfect, he'd sweep like hell, then say he didn't know what the line was. He'd throw heavy then blame it in the fact he'd thrown his straight rock, to which Rachel said "Well...." ( you could hear the "duh" in her voice). Don't know how she can stand it.

I finally had to turn the sound off, but it looked like a exciting finish. Congrats
Reid and Jo.

not to mention "that was my straight rock" - I agree.
edit: haha, you did mention it. I give Homan mega points for endurance on that.

So, there is another factor that came out of these #MixedDoubles National Championships. Colin Hodgson tweeted: 8 W's in a row gives @chelscarey and I our @CurlingCanada Olympic Trials spot
- So I wonder if all of the final 12 get OlyTrials spots from this event. That is a good consolation prize for those who did not win. Wonder if there was any cash prize. I wonder if the winners get CurlingCanada funding as national champion athletes. I would think so.

I too had to turn the sound off. That man prattles on and on and he did seem to ignore Rachaels direction relative to line and sweeping. Amazed they did as well as they did. Congrats again to Jo and Reid. They worked well together.

3 spots into the mixed double trials from the 2017 nationals. 11 more spots of the 18 still to be determined. 1 more spot from an event in early September and then best 10 teams not already in yet from the CMDR LIST

yeah, i saw that. good that they are.

im fairly certain jeff had a hand in it. i read on article on curling canada's website. jeff had mentioned that tsn was broadcasting this year and that he didnt want the story to be that the winners werent there and "why are these guys here".

he may have actually asked for a committment from everyone entered to go to worlds., maybe learning from last year. at the same time im not sure it'd bothered him if TSN wasnt broadcasting the event. and homand and morris sounded pretty non commital

that makes sense - Really - the olympic lure is a big one, but what is the point in entering if you do not intend to go the distance - in any sport! I am glad for this confirmation.

It all worked out in the end thankfully. With Reid and Jo going, we'll be able to see our 100% best duo go against the World. With those two going, I'm actually excited on what they can accomplish in Lethbridge.

thats a tricky group. that czech republic team is the biggest threat. very good team that made playoffs in both previous appearances and won a bronze medal.

united states looks to be fielding a good team. turkey could also be tough. the czech republic , to me looks like the biggest challenge though.

think canada will fight it out with them for top sot. turkey and US will battle for the other team to come out

Homan played like God in that game despite it being 3 against 1. What had to sting was listening to John Morris make excuses for his constant screw ups, and his vulgar language. It was cocksucker this, and cocksucker that. (Pardon the language). If I were her I would have shoved my broom down his throat. I can't believe he hasn't run out of people who will play with him yet!

I mean Morris contributed nothing to that game, except misses, oversweeps, undersweeps, excuses and vulgarity. It
was her vs. Courtney and Carruthers, and Morris.

I wondered why she was even curling with him. Then I wondered if her, having been coached by Earl, and him, being his son and all, maybe they know each other pretty well - like cousins or something. Am not a big jonnyMo fan either. I think his reputation is one thing - his ability is another. Prob a good enough fellow.

Jonny Mo has never won anything unless someone else was throwing the important rocks.
He was a much better curler when he played 3rd for Martin and was smart enough to keep his mouth shut.

John curled 100% in that final game - 40% for the Homan/Morris

team and 60% for Courtney/Carruthers!

Canada will, nevertheless, be represented by an exceptionally

talented team, fully capable of winning it all.

Homan and Morris won two of the Mixed Doubles tour events this season and reached the finals of the Nationals. You can say what you want about Morris but Rachel obviously knows how to deal with John and they win a lot together. Since John throws three out of the five rocks he must be doing something right. Should Homan somehow be upset in the ROTR they could easily win the Olympic trials should Canada secure a spot in it.

She dealt with him by telling him in no uncertain terms about 3 times in the last end to get in the hack, stop chattering, and that they were out of time for [his useless] conversation. I guess she didn't tell him to stop saying "cocksucker" because that kept rolling out of his mouth all end. I don't care if he curls lights-out every game (and he most certainly doesn't). He reflects poorly on anybody who has to play with him and put up with this garbage.
