Respect to Sue Mooij

We all have 'that' lady at our curling club. She's the one that comes down every Christmas and New Year's, and I mean every Christmas and New Year's and helps decorate the club. Every Club Championship Finals day she brings food to the pot luck. She's unfailingly polite, pretty much always laughing and smiling, and in addition can flat out curl.

Sue Mooij was that lady at the High Park Curling Club. She has been a member three plus decades and won umpteen Club Championships. In addition she has had by far the best record outside the club of any of our curlers.

She passed very suddenly and unexpectedly at all too young an age this week. We all know the saying, "All humans are born equal, but some are more equal than others". Well here once again, Sue was 'that' lady. She will be greatly missed. But the love so many hold for her will never pass.

The entire GTA curling community was shocked to hear of her passing. While I was on the losing end to Sue in my very first OCA competition, she was a lovely opponent and very kind to a bunch of newbies.

It was not only High Park curling she supported but Toronto Curling and GTA curling in general She played in as many TCA bonspiels (good thing she couldn't do the mens! She probably would have won that) that she could, club bonspiels and OCA competitions. Curlers like her are what keep these events going.

It shows that life is short, so what if you come in last at the bonspiel or just miss a trip to the Provincials, just get out and enjoy the fact you are curling and try to have fun while you do it.

Condolences to her family.
