Pebble Size

I am new at making curling ice. My question is regarding the base pebble versus the play/curl pebble. According to ice technicians manuals I have read, it states to put down 2 base pebble, then 1 play or curl pebble. It doesn't state what size of pebble to use. So do I use a 72 or 74 hole size for base pebble and a 76 hole size for play/curl pebble, or the 76 for base and the 72 or 74 for play/curl pebble?

There isn't really a right answer to this type of question -- sr.tech states to use a 76 base and 74 top, but depending on your environmental conditions, your ice, the rocks and other factors, it might not be right for you. For example, we use an XF head for our pebbling, but up in Canada where winter humidity is significantly lower it'd all evaporate before it hit the ice surface.

I'd suggest using different combinations until you get the speed & curl you are looking for.
