Sherry was embarrassed by this but had no reason to be. Behind Homan was Emma Miskew who actually stopped and chatted for a few minutes and was extremely friendly and personable. No fan of Homan and after being at the Players Championship in Toronto this weekend I can tell you that I am not alone.

I'm always intrigued when people expect 'famous' people to be as happy and as giddy to meet them as they are to meet the 'famous' person.

Think of it from their perspective... constantly being asked for autographs, photos... regularly being asked to 'meet' friends of friends, etc... I can imagine it gets tiring rather quickly. And for someone who is naturally shy (as Homan has been described as being by those close to her), it's especially challenging.

I don't think it's fair to criticize people who simply choose not to put on an act and pretend to be 'happy' to meet a complete stranger whom they'll likely never speak with again in their lives.

By the way - Homan was also the first player to go and sign autographs and pose for photos with the kids immediately following her loss to Tirinzoni on Friday.
I know that 'demonizing' people attracts more attention (unfortunately)... but, given that you don't know Homan personally, it would be nice if you would at least make an honest attempt to be fair and objective.

You say that Homan's team is "probably the best Canada has ever had."

Homan has to enjoy continued success for a few more years before anyone can make a claim like that. The "best Canada has ever had" in curling have to show longevity. Enjoying success when the opposition's cross hairs are fixed on you because you are a champion. Enjoying success when the years take their toll on a high level curler's body and mind. Enjoying success when team dynamics and the game change around you. Names like Martin, Howard, C. Jones, J. Jones, etc. fall into that category. Will Homan's name be added to the list? We'll see how the next few years go.

Silvana Tirinzoni

Repped Switzerland and won Gold in the Junior worlds.

I watched her battle now-world champ..Feltscher to a close second finish at Swiss playdowns..

Team Muirhead.. Vicki Adams playing third..pulled up her precision to 88% ..
in the quarters crush of Erika Brown

They just may be a bit too tough for Team Tirinzoni.. especially with Cathy O adding power to the group
---------------

Gushue - Jacobs.. battle of the Brads.. would be an excellent final

Too bad only a fraction of Canada can watch the SF and Final
on subscribed Sportsnet 360 and ONE

Totally agree. Rachel's strategy was more akin to a a points bonspiel then a quarter final in a Grand Slam.

Didn't say she wasn't talented. It is quite obvious what she is thinking when she hardly shakes hands or doesn't bother to with the the other team good luck.

I would not want her representing Canada and losing a game she thought she was suppose to win and just kind of slapping the oponents hand, instead of a thanks for the game and good luck!

She needs to learn how to lose. I see she was the best this weekend?

I don't mind if they miss a called shot, but when the called shot is taking risks that can't be backed up by execution, bad strategy. McEwen good example today.

Homan likely feels that she lost the game more than the other team won it. This is simply a product of self-confidence, is not a lack of respect for the other team, and it is often mistaken for arrogance by those who look no deeper than the surface of things.

Mine was just a general comment and didn't target Homan or her team. Having said that, 30 seconds of sportsmanship shouldn't be too hard for an accomplished champion. But yes, some people are just wired differently. Islanders goalie Billy Smith never took part in the traditional post-series handshakes.

Wow what a classy curler Einarson is. She misses her last shot and suffers a really heart-breaking loss to Jones. She briefly looks down, then goes back and collects Jones' broom and slider and goes to congratulate her. Impressive stuff from the young lady. Good luck to her in the future.

That was a really tough loss. I was hoping she'd chalk up a win against Jones. Great try though. Congrats to her and her team.

Hopes for Scotland here. I am so torn between the two Brads. I'll cheer for Team Gushue but applaud the great shots of Team Jacobs.

I thought that was a sensational game to watch. Congrats to Eve -- and also to Jennifer for nailing down a trials berth this week.

Too bad that the only people who seemed to know how the spot would be awarded is CC .Even the announcers admitted that they had to go in search of the rules.

It's hard on the fans when one's "hero" doesn't act the way we envision one should act. Homan may be a great curler, but, that doesn't mean she is a great person. I'm not saying she is or not, I'm saying that her personality may not be what fan's expectations of her to be. Just because someone is a good athlete doesn't automatically mean they will be a nice person. Having said this, I respect the curlers who are/appear to be nice persons. It's easy to smile when you win, but, the curling code says lose gracefully (or something like that).

I like curlers (and people in general) who are honest, and who make no attempt to be fake or put on an act or be phony to any degree.
I have more respect for someone who shakes hands without looking their opponents in the eye because they are angry/upset/frustrated with the game/themselves than for a person who is upset/angry/ frustrated, but puts on a phony act of smiling and pretending they are not angry or upset.

I prefer a sincere representation to insincere smiles and 'congratulations' and 'good lucks' uttered just because that's what 'political correctness' expects.
Give me honesty over pretense any day - no matter what the honesty is made of.

Good luck with that. As far as how you prefer things, then you can be happy with an honest but conceited, snobby person because she represents herself truthfully. Again, not the person who I want representing Canada, not by any stretch of the imagination.

I will definitely pass.

Competitive athletes in most sports are not held to the same standard of sportsmanship as curling and golf. Maybe that is why I love both so much. If we can excuse a player's decision to be less than gracious after a loss when shaking hands with the eventual winner, perhaps we should look back at the great matches between Arnie and Jack, Jack and Tom Watson. Or most recently, look at how Jordan had to present the green jacket after blowing the back 9 on Sunday at the Masters. He was deeply disappointed and yet carried out his duties to the tournament and the sport with as much class as he could. We should expect nothing less of a highly competitive curler playing on the international stage with some of the best teams in the world
