2015 world mixed curling championship
Inaugural mixed world championship. this is really taking place at a horrible time with no media attention at all, im not sure that anyone except for hard core fans like me that will even know this is going on at this time. not to mention it'll be taking place at time when , for the beginning most fans attention will be on the cash tour since a grand slam is taking place. The top 3 teams from each group come out with the first place team advancing directly to the querterfinal.
but anyway, lets have a look:
Group A looks like it'll be a race between sweden, denmark, italy and france with ireland possibly playing the role of spoiler.
first place: sweden. skip is a talented young man that finished second to bottcher at world juniors in 2012 . got a good lineup in front of him and he himself can make a lot of shots. they should be able to get through on top fairly comfortably.
second and third: as i said above this is open to 4 teams. denmark, italy, france and maybe ireland. its hard but lets go with denmark and france.
Group B is tough with germany, canada, norway, finland and australia. There's a lot of experience in this group of curlers.
First place: Germany. Andy has so much experience in curling and if im right this is the team he won the euro mixed with a couple years ago.
there are so many teams that could make it out of the group in second and third. i think australia will be hampered by the fact that their women arent anywhere near as strong as the men . wales seems to do well in mixed so they mnake this harder. norway has a young, strong and talented team and canada..i dont know this skip to well but he has a good 3 in front of him. finland has lots of experience and talent there too. its hard but:
second and third: canada and finland
Group C looks like a pretty wide open group with some strong curling nations but a lot of first timers or unexperienced repping.
First place: switzerland. a good young team containing 2 thirds of the recent successful junior mens rink.
the other 4 im looking at are russia, england, czech republic and china. i dont know anything about these skips really so second are third are just me being safe
second and third: russia and china
Group D has a couple dangerous teams and a strong US team.
First place: United states. very strong mixed team, looks like they should get through safely enough
teams that could contend to get out after them are scotland, austria, turkey, japan and hungary. hungary and austria are 2 of those smaller european countries that are getting better/returning. japan you cant cut out in a field like this, same with scotland.
second and third: scotland and hungary

Well, I'd be disloyal if I didn't say watch out for New Zealand as well in Group C. Agree it looks like a wide open group, and it should be a really excellent event.

@misty1 - email Joanna Kelly at the World Curling Federation and let her know you're interested in webcasts - the more interest they get, the likelier it is that they would spend the money on producing a webcast. Cheers!

so with canada losing to germany today it now becomes a huge game in their final draw. should canada lose to norway and finland defeat germany then canada would play a tiebreaker against the fins to determine the 3rd spot out of the group. however if they win then germany, norway and canada all get through clear on 2 losses . however since they'd all be 1-1 against each other im not sure who'd get first and pass through to the quarterfinals automatically and who'd have to play in the playoffs to get to the final 8

all the groups really going according to the way i thought they would. italy instead though looking to get the spot with denmark and sweden though which isnt a surprise since it was a toss up with them and france i thought..although france is still alive as is ireland. slovakia doing surprisingly well
group b ..no real surprises. germany and norway have qualified now no matter what. canada's future is a little more uncertain
group c, again, no real surprises. the swiss are strong, as are the russdians and the chinese..the only surprise might be that china is only 1 back of switzerland and russia and poland is hanging in there.
group d ..the qualifiers i believe have basically already been decided being scotland, hungary and the united states. however now there's just first place to play for.

so teams qualified for the playoffs:
directly to the quarterfinals
germany
united states
sweden
russia
into the playoffs to reach the quarterfinal:
italy
norway
canada
hungary
scotland
switzerland
china
one of denmark or france..they will play a tiebreaker, i believe
playoff matches:
italy v.s canada - expect canada to win this rather comfortably
norway v.s? - play winner of denmark/slovakia tiebreaker. will get back to this
china v.s hungary - tough one but i'll take hungary
switzerland v.s scotland - really hard to call but give slight edge to switzerland
