There really was no need to change the Brier. It still garnered the highest ratings during the season of champions of any competition. There will always be teams at the bottom of the table its just now it will vary between who they are. Nothing will change, the quality really wont be any better and things wont be any more exciting.
The popular saying don't fix what aint broken applies here.

I found this on the stats report for draw 17 so I would assume it provides the final standings based on the draw to the button results.
B.C. (Morris) 9 2
Alberta (K Koe) 9 2
Manitoba (Stoughton) 9 2
Quebec (Menard) 7 4
Sask (Laycock) 6 5
NL (Gushue) 6 5
N.B. (Grattan) 6 5
Ontario (Balsdon) 5 6
PEI (MacKenzie) 4 7
NWT/Yukon (J Koe) 3 8
N.Ontario (Currie) 2 9
N.S. (Murphy) 0 11
Given that we know that the top three are in the correct order, lets just assume that the rest are and go with that. Only a 2 point swing one way or the other for some teams...not many had NL below 4th anyways.

re Nova Scotia
And back to back finals in 2004 and 2005. One of them a Brier Championship win.
But hey, that's ancient history right. They played that on outdoor ice right?

Its going to be a very long evening for Alberta Team #1. Give credit to Morris and Cotter where credit is due.

MB or PQ
I'd like to see either MB or PQ win as they are the only teams left truly representing their provinces as both of the other teams have out of province players. Really like to see Stoughton win as they probably have the better chance to win the worlds.

Curling is VERY MUCH of the 'on the other hand' when it comes to these kinds of tactics.
..
In curling the tradition of going out to win every game regardless of the standings is long standing. ...
What curling DOES NOT accept is anyone who would throw a game to benefit themselves. ...
I remember very clearly the reputation Kevin Martin earned for himself when he brought out the corn brooms. It took him ten years at least to rehabilitate his reputation after that stunt...
The idea that they would risk that rep for the miniscule and entirely questionable gain of who you are playing in the playoffs is risible.
...
I seem to vaguely recall a controversy about a dozen years back at the Mens Worlds, one of the teams jockeying for a better position in the 1vs4 and 2vs3 scenario(before the page playoff was introduced). Anyone else have a recollection of this?
I think it was the year that Ferbey got called on 3 hog line violations in one game against the Swiss in Switzerland, lost the game and got knocked out of the Gold medal contention.
Much has changed since then, including the introduction of the Page playoffs a few years after this and the "Eye on the Hog"

Looks like Alberta 2 is off to the finals and Alberta/Saskatchewan 1 plays the winner of Quebec and Manitoba.

Koe is a dominant monster but his team lacks the synergy of the other monsters - ie. Jacobs!
Morris/Cotter have a good thing going right now but with nothing to lose (other than the game) Koe will start to torment Morris & Cotter with risky posers. This game is far from over!
Unless Koe takes smacks the daylights out of Morris and Cotter arm, its been game over since the 4th end. Even that, too little, too late.

re Koe v Quebec
So......unless y'all are saying that Koe threw the game against Quebec knowing it would cost him the hammer.....then perhaps a retraction is in order.

Didnt feel like watching the game last night. Seems to be an ominous lack of interest in the Briar this year... Pretty sad that the CCA has turned the Briar into a non event ... All the bad decisions are coming to a head maybe...

& the award goes to.....
John Morris for the most annoying curler in this years Brier.
Can someone please cut his mike, he has got to be the most irritating curler to deal with, never shutting up, blah, blah. Wonder how The Bear put up with him for all these years. Now he has submissive Jim Cotter in his corner, just the way he likes it.
PS Nice teal shoes Johnny.
PSS The East Coasters play the game cause they love it as recreation, ON - West play it as a profession. Since the beginning in 1927 only 4 Maritime teams have actually won, the rest being from ON to West Coast.
& then the CCA penalizes the Maritimers? Why not give them a curling subsidy so maybe they can afford to go to more bonspiels with arena ice that actually curls & not their local straight stuff, then maybe we can see a better Brier & not always the same provinces in the playoffs.

When Morris was viceing for Martin Morris gave tons of suggestions and would pout and sulk when Martin ignored him.. Now Morris runs roughshod over Cotter not taking any suggestions from any of his teammates and steadfastly playing s shots and strategy he wants

He is in the Brier final. Whatever he is doing, it is working.

Maybe his team management type is not one you would like to play under but it seems in 2 SIgnificant events the team has made the finals in both. Until the other members of the team complain about his style and bullying it appears to me they are enjoying the results, and probably care very little how you feel.

I agree. His management style is between him and players. If they don't like him they can just move on. More important are results than temperament.

If Jeff just clutter the house and stop Quebec from throwing out turns, it would be a much different game. Yikes!

Stoughton's team looked played out and Jeff and Jon didn't have that "look" in their eye's.
Good Luck Quebec!

Manitoba played poorly but quebec played a terrific game. The lead struggled but as far as the other 3 go, except for a few mistakes early they made everything
