wow. not that edin didnt make good shots but jacobs really handed him the opportunity. in a situation where im tied with hammer im not complication the situation by throwing up multiple guards. he just gave edin material to hide behind and he did. Just don t understand why brad didnt try cleaning up the front. the way he called that was just a gift and edin took it.

Hmmm. So Flaxey starts with a steal?!
As you can tell... I have no video.
I wonder if Flaxey's lineup is full of determination, with an even style (not top down) of team dynamics. Looked back through their history. Interesting mix of women.
Am getting used to Homan after all of these years, but no warm and fuzzies there yet. She seems less *angry* this season - morphing into a game-lover, instead of a win-lover.
Thanks for all of your updates.

well flaxey is proving me wrong and im loving it. i've been impressed by what i've been seeing through these first 5. perhaps this really is that breakthrough season for them. up 3 with 3 to go. can they hold on? i hope so
been impressed the most with flaxey . made 2 great shots in the first 2 nds to steal and force and the way they responded after a tough 4th end is impressive.
and major props to clancy grandy. putting on a brilliant performance and keeping a lot of pressure on emma. she was a strong junior so a good pick up for alison

Would enjoy the game a lot more if the announcers would be quiet and give their jibber jabber a break...they say the same thing ..many different ways

Another new champ...I think instead of a stepn' fetch it boy, team Homan needs a coach. Good for Team Flaxey but Homan & the gals certainly handed that win on a si.ver platter

are you sure Team Flaxey didn't outcurl Team Homan. Do you think she was handed every game from the tiebreakers forward?

Not all that bad
When taken into perspective..
that was only game LOSS number 3 by Rachel Homan this season
19-3..for 3 events ( 2 wins and this runner up)

Sometimes. a great team gets outplayed, out curled, out called, by the team that beat them. End of story.

Only one team left with a perfect record. Tournament wins wise.

just a note about the tour challenge and some interesting absences:
no muirhead, sidorova, kim or feltscher
and lawton and howard in the tier 2 event..thats a shocker
anyone know how they decide what tams get to compete in the tier 2 event or is just by signing up?

The European teams you mention are playing an event in Switzerland that same weekend, and look to be using it as a warm-up against each other before the European Championships being held in Scotland the following weekend.

Interesting - Edin makes a super-duper shot to earn the EE win in the final. (video available but not on CZ yet but is on GSOC) while, in their first match-up, Jacobs makes the super-duper (video here on CZ) for the win in that game. Even Stephen.
None of the clips on the GSOC site a were working but EDIT:They are working now :-) http://www.thegrandslamofcurling.co...tle-at-masters/
Congrats team Flaxey and team Edin. I am glad to see new teams (Edin not new but 1st GSwin) stepping up. Can only help our Oly chances. It is a head game. #OhYeah

Maybe a couple of years ago I would have said Lawton having to go into Tier 2 would be strange but not anymore. She just does not win like she used to and it is not just because of lack of support from her teammates. Would love to see another young Sask women's team break through.

good question

How did Flaxey steal a million points on the Top Teams..over and over again..
Thought Raytch would figure that out.. but since Emma seemed "off" this event.. it didnt happen
Really Happy for Allison Flaxey ( and what a super Third!!!).. whose Team age ( 28) averages the same as Homan..
dont know where she has been other than ON Scotties champ in 2014..
Surely..someone can stop all that Thievery..even though Flaxey's Shooters are really GOOD!!!
The new winners at the Masters was good for curling....

i agree new winners is good for curling but only if they can back it up. paetz has done absolutely nothing since winning worlds 2 years ago. however i dont think flaxey do the same. she's been on a somewhat steady climb over the last 2 years

I just checked her wiki page. She has represented Canada at the world mixed (Bronze). She's been around since her MB junior years. Took a stint in Alberta. I think she knows the mental game very well and is not likely to be easily intimidated. She has worked hard, opened the door and made a grand entrance. I am becoming a fan.

Alina Paetz
Just FYI.. Paetz is not a "one-off" winner as seems to be some assumptions lately..
Alina just turned 26 years old.. she has quite the Curling CV..
2010- Silver - European Mixed Curling Championship (Lead for Claudio Ptz)
2011 -Gold- World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship (with Sven Michel).
2012- Gold - Worlds with Ott
2013 -Bronze European Curling Championships.
2014- Olympics appearance
2015 -Gold - World Women's Curling Championship defeating Canada's Jennifer Jones in the final...

They took the Order of Merit after week 7. Top 15 teams got in Tier 1. Next 10 got in Tier 2. If a team declines, they go to the next one, etc. For the last 5 spots in Tier 2 for either gender, it is more of the local organizing comitee and they invited 9 BC rinks and Kerry Galusha.
Howard was 17th in OOM when they took the rankings and only 1 of the 16 teams in front of him declined the invitation (De Cruz) So, it's not that shocking because Howard is right now a step off the elite and maybe the fact that he doesn't as much as most of the teams in front have played 5-6 spiels with better results then Howard who only has played 4 and qualified to half of them never making the semis.
I think it's been covered on how Lawton's not in. The fact that she had a new team (ie 2 new members) for 2 straight years has hurt her a lot in playing the slams against top teams.
That's a statement win for Flaxey. I was wondering who I considered to clinch the 5 remaining spots at the beginning of the year and I saw that she had points to get in the slams. She now doesn't even have to worry about missing a slam for this year. She's in a great spot to get a Trials spot. Not calling it now, but it's looking good for them, but in can change in a hurry if those teams chasing her are getting results and that an underdog wins the Scotties and medals at the Worlds.
