2017 European Masters
This event features most of Europe's top teams, minus De Cruz and a US team McCormick is in there, it's an 8 team event.
So far after 2 draws McCormick has upset Ulsrud, won again over Walstad to go 2-0. Brewster is 2-0 including a win over Murdoch. Smith is 2-0 with a win over Murdoch. Edin is also 2-0. All the other teams are 0-2, Edin's a big favorite to win here, they have just had a much better season than the other teams.
As for the women it's a 6 team event and a far weaker field, Paetz are maybe slight fav's to win, Fleming also strong contenders, the rest of the field is a step or more down from them.

yeah, the womens field is pretty weak this year. seems like virtually no one wanted to play and they really had to scrape to get teams to compete. andrea schopp isnt even competing with her regular team, its a team of thrown together swiss women. really not good for the event
the mens field is strong.
niklas edin though...how many matches can that team play before they get tired, its honestly ridiculous. they remind me of those tennis players that you see playing virtually every single week without a rest and you ask"how arent they tired yet".

Edin's team is fully funded and supported by their government. All arrangements are made for them. All they do is show up and play....no red eye flights for this team (unless that's all that is available) probably have 1st class seats!

i know they are but fatigue has to factor in at some point, doesnt it. they have played a ton of events this year. i dont think they ever took an extended break. they'll play 16 events this year. thats a lot of curling and yet they dont look tired at all
we've seen other teams get burned out when they play such heavy schedules..sidorova, paetz, wang, ulsrud

Brewster is dominating so far in this 8team RR. I wonder if the intention is for him to peak for the Olympics. Well... yes, Smith down'd him. Just looking at the scores though, he looks strong.

To be fair on the women though, some of these teams don't play a decent schedule, so they may be good, just don't have enough competition play, nice to see the top team from BC there Thompson, too bad they didn't even make provincial playoffs for the TOH, Schoepp does not play as much as she used to, this week has Swiss skip Hegner as 3rd and another Swiss player not on Hegner's team as lead, has her own 2nd though, interesting team who could be good, Czech top team Kubeskova are there, they could do something, not sure if Barbezat is worth mentioning.

Well it's some decent competition in Scotland right now with 3 nice teams, but I'd say Smith are in the lead right now, Murdoch is falling fast.
Pfister had a 6 ender on Murdoch today, incredible and ouch. Brewster did the same to Walstad.
After Ulsrud went 0-2 yesterday, has bounced back well today with wins over Walstad, who owns their HTH and Smith.
Edin keeps rolling, at the top 4-0 so far.

Nah,,,, that could never happen!!!
ML this is so unlike you trying to use sarcasm as humour. Being a former reporter I would have had you researching the facts and reporting accurate information.
Murdoch was admitted to hospital on Wed am. and has not played a game. The team has played with three players to the best of their abilities given the handicap.
Dave has subsequently flown back to Scotland. Tough sled in a field such as this with three players. Arguably Dave has the best of Scotland on his team so no new players required.

Dave might have the best players on his team, but is his team the best, probably not, Smith are the best team right now IMO.
Thanks for this info, but it's not like we can know this since it's not viewable unless we are there, which you apparently are.

Edin. Keep in mind that this is his full time and only job. Most elite players probably play as much or almost as much in addition to having full time jobs to support them and their families.

Good Point Stoner. Sometimes, if someone is at the event, they will post about anything unusual. When Brewster was replaced on his team by Murdoch, it was the Royal Caledonian Club (Scottish Curling association) who did that. Not Murdoch. Murdoch is a lovely man who always makes time for fans - young and old. I hope he recovers quickly.

I can confirm the Murdoch news, as there was a video posted on FB 3 hours ago with an interview with Drummond which says he's replacing Murdoch as skip.

So it looks like Pfister just beat Edin 2-0 after only 2 ends, team Edin just shook hands, so maybe something very serious happened, I hope not.

With Edin being 6-0 going into this game, could it be that the game was essentially meaningless?

Congratulations to the Kubeskova team for winning the European Masters event. This team keeps improving...

Meaningless or not, you still play through, it's against sports to just quit if you think the game is meaningless, plus I thought they had to play at least 4 ends anyway.

Edin slept in and missed the game. KMart stated this during the Shuster v Koe match on Thursday. That's why two points were posted and the game forfeited.

Really, thanks, interesting, but games have been played with 3 players before right?

I wasn't clear there; KMart indicated that only two players showed up for the game.
