Summer Ramblings

Well it is not yet summer but it is just over a week until the Derby. As always this thread is not about curling except for cool summer spiels or something.

Tuck will be here soon to give you his rambling on the Derby. I need to do some more research to figure out my picks. I will tell you this, there is a son of Curlin running, he is Irish War Cry. Will probably go off as third choice around 6-1. The favorite will be Classic Empire who is a head case. He could win or finish 10th.

Lots of good looking horses and hard to throw many out. The trifecta could be a bomb, looking at 4 digit payout and a tax ticket.

I don't have much rambling going on just yet. It's hard to get into the correct mindset while Faceteam Shuster makes the tiebreakers at The Champions (including a quality win over Edin) and our national champions Sinclair made the playoffs. Go Jamie and the Jamettes! Both teams were without their respective Hammies as Hammy and Lil Miss Hammy are at World Mixed Doubles.

Like JH, I'm liking Irish War Cry in The Kentucky Derby. Like JH and everybody who follows horse racing, it looks like a wide open year and the trifecta could pay really big...but I seem to think that every year. I only slightly disagree with JH on one minor point: I think Irish War Cry might be marginally higher than 6 to 1. UK bookmakers have him at 8 to 1. I'm guessing that Classic Empire and Always Dreaming will get bet heavily. That might allow Irish War Cry to inch up around 9 to 1. I hope he doesn't reach 10 to 1 because that would force me to play heavier than I'd like.

If you only play longshots, my bomb this year will be Patch who should go off around 55 to 1. Poor colt lost his left eye early in life. He's not fast, but he keeps running and always tries hard. Does he have a real chance? No. He'll be 55 to 1. But I'm cheering for him and I'll have him in a couple of small wagers.

Two dropouts today gets my dead late closer into the field. Lookin At Lee will be passing horses in the stretch like they are standing still. He will be in the three spot for sure in my trifecta and might make the two spot as well.

Tuck and I agree (I think) that there will be a speed duel and the pace will be high to start. Could be the year of the closer - Lookin At Lee and Gunnerera. Those two will figure in my bets, now just need to figure out where.

I need to go get my official full form, but I think that I read that Classic Empire and Always Dreaming both have dosages of 5.0. If true, this is going to cause me to put down a few good tri and super boxes

Always Dreaming is not going to win. Too wired according to Tuck and some of the experts. Will be going backwards at the end.

My exacta has Gunnevera, Classic Empire, McCracken, Irish War Cry (son of Curlin) and Gormley.

My trifecta part wheel is 4x5x8.

Very even field this year, tough to pick. Of course a bomb could win as well if the track turns up sloppy.

How did that work out for you?

That did not work out for me. I had to pick between Classic Empire and Always Dreaming. I chose badly.

Probably won't bet the Preakness and wait for the Belmont. Lookin At Lee in the Belmont if he runs.

Epicharis will ship in from Japan and win the Belmont.

I think Irish War Cry flipped his palette at the top of the stretch. He looked very strong around the corner. I suspect he will come back and win some very big races like the Haskell. He is owned by Mr. Haskell's daughter, Isabella de Tomaso.

Watching the Amgen tour of California. Scouting for my fantasy team for Le Tour. Majka might make the team. Sagan of course. Cradock, the young US guy is not looking good.

Big climbing stage today to shake up the overall. Some riders racing to make their Le Tour team.

JH
those that follow had to know I would talk about Le Tour at some point.

PPS got nothing on the Preakness, GNCC annual meeting this weekend

Andrew Talansky crushed it today on the tough Mt. Baldy HC stage. He won't win the Le Tour this year but he is the future. Probably made my team.
