1v2, winner to finals and loser plays 3. Winner of that second game goes to finals.

2v3 only if there would have been an outright winner, which there wasn't.

Pretty crazy to manufacture a page playoff when 3 teams tie for first with 2 losses each. Connolly beat other 2 so he should be top seed, then Hodek should play Stopera with winner playing Connolly for title.

The USCA didn't manufacture a modified Page playoff with 3 teams tied for first, it just happened to work out that way. Playoff format was clear before the event started.

From the 2016/2017 rule book:

If 2 or 3 teams are tied for first place after the round robin, then the team ranked 1st plays against the team ranked 2nd. The winner advances to the final game, the loser goes to the semifinal game. Team ranked 3rd plays against the loser of the 1v2 game in the semifinal game. The winner of the semifinal advances to the final, the loser is ranked 3rd.

I don't think someone was claiming that these convoluted playoff rules have been made up on the fly during the event. But that they were put in place in the first place, as I've said before, I feel, is an attempt to protect the HPP teams from a bad game.

Go Connolly!!!

So Clawson and Bear will compete at big nationals in Seattle?

I would assume Bear and Clawson will go to Nationals. Since a HP team won both the Juniors I can't see sending one of these two in their place.

Congratulations is in order for Connolly and Hodek who held there own with both HP teams. In the Page Playoffs the HP team was able to pull out one rock victories to advance. Honestly those three teams were very equally matched and all three would have been a fine representative to Worlds.

Yes, the mens field was very competitive. I thought the women's field would have closer competition. I was not sure of Bear or Clawson participating at Seattle nationals because I imagine Stopera and Dubberstein would pick up a player from Bear and Clawson for fifth at worlds.

My sources say that Clawson, at least, will be at Nationals, hoping to improve on last year's 5th place finish.
