jhcurl, What is your problem with Team Homan? This is their first Women's worlds. Takes time to settle in. Rather difficult to have 11 medals at their age. Your sarcastic comments are not necessary. After watching USA play Canada, neither team was playing very well. Sit back and enjoy the curling. You can cheer for your team with out ripping apart other teams. Enjoy the rest of the week.

What is your problem with reading an entire 3-page thread of comments so you can understand the context of the very last comment posted? I would direct your attention to the comments by Nine Ender particularly, and also direct you to several other comments by USA curling fans that were very admiring of Homan's ability, which no one here is questioning.
And if you think sarcasm is unnecessary, I suggest you stay away from pretty much all threads under the "USA Curling" section. And if you want to see some real "ripping apart" I suggest you go over to the other Canada-focused forums and read pretty much any comment including the words 'Jennifer' and 'Jones.'

I have no problem with team Homan. I think they are a fine team and was rather happy when they crushed team Jones in the Scotties.
If you read the entire thread you will see that a couple of us have been "razzing" another poster who said among other things that team Brown was a "new" team.
So I will go back to what I do best which is post stuff here about my friends. Then wait for summer ramblings to start again.

I'd love to know how that 9th end played out against China. I can't imagine a 5.

You started the whole argument by posting the US was going straight to the 1-2 game because somehow thrashing Italy was a signal for this. You then felt the need to label the Homan team as "overrated". So I jumped in with a dose of reality.
Your posts were ABSURD from the get go. When I said I had a hard time taking you seriously I was being real; no competitive aware Curler would post that kind of garbage analysis ( another example : you said number of ends Canada took to beat Latvia would be a major sign of some type ).
Team Homan has been together for a decade playing with each other. How many years has this Brown lineup been together ? I don't care how many medals the individuals on the team have; if winning Curling was about previous medals we'd have sent Arsenault to the World's this year. Colleen Jones has won more gold medals then any of these players and she was the second on that team. Good for all these woman's accomplishments but this a competition this year with these lineups.
Look, the cream is rising to the top now ( Sweden, Scotland, Canada; some might also say Russia, and Scotland was not a definate pre-event ); Canada stumbled early and so they only get a 3 or 4 spot going into playoffs. The US was as expected a middling playoff contendor which would more then likely either sneak into playoffs or barely miss. To have achieved more in the RR was possible but their career record TOGETHER suggests this would be an upside and going straight to the 1-2 game was not a likely result.
Canada is rounding into form and win or lose they've rebounded from some adversity nicely. I wish the US team no ill will but honestly my problem was with the opinions posted on this forum. Starting with yours. Tell me again how meaningful the margin of victory over Italy or Latvia was. The US does seem masterful at crushing weak teams. Point differential doesn't seem to count though this isn't soccer.

Or, for that matter, most other close observers of the curling scene. The Homan rink has had an awesome year (actually two years, other than coming up a point short in ON playoffs last year), and anyone who followed the Scotties this year would have bet they would reach the 1-2 game at the world. They struggled early in the week, but Rachel's 88% and 94% shooting in her most recent games suggest they may be peaking at the right time. Muirhead and the Swedish team have also been impressive this year, and their shooting percentages throughout the week suggest those teams are the ones most likely to medal. They are all capable of putting alot of pressure on their opponents. The US will definitely have their hands full needing to get by both Scotland and Russia in order to make the playoffs. I don't expect either the US or Russia to beat Scotland, so the US will need to beat Russia to set up a tie-breaker for the fourth place spot.

I have to thank my friends that have decided to "defend" me. Tuck, Frykenstein, Chapnlie and others, really this is just entertainment to me. I could care less what some anonymous poster on a chat room has to say about me or my opinions. Everyone is entitled to their opinions (it seems, except me) but whatever.
Back to the topic at hand. The US needs to win one of two and hope and win them both and they should be in. Either way, not sure when I was wrong about Canada not making the 1-2 game. Will the US win gold who knows, will Canada win gold who knows. That is why they play the games. Who could have predicted that Martin would not throw a rock to give away a game to Scotland. Sh*t happens sometimes and the best time does not always win.

Oh wait, I was supposed to talk about friends and such. Tuck knows nothing about curling or growing sugar beets for that matter.

Hey Nine Ender
Not sure what flavor of kool aid you've been drinking, but Team Homan still has two games left in the round robin, both against teams that will be highly motivated to make the playoff round - Japan and China.
The members of Team Homan are highly skilled, and they are well-coached. But they are young, and who knows what may happen?
Win both of their remaining games, and they are in the playoffs. Win one and lose one, and they may be in or they may be in a tiebreaker. Lose both games, and they may be out or they may be in a tiebreaker.
I like Team Brown, and I hope they make the playoffs. However, if they don't make it, I'll be rooting for Team Homan. They have innovated the use of the tick shot in early ends of Women's Curling, and they'll be force to reckon with down the road.

Wow! The Swiss (whom I liked to make the medal stand this year) loses to Latvia while I slept. Scotland beats Russia.
That means that the USA can drop a game to Scotland as long as we come back and beat Russia.
Sweden and Scotland have the Page 1 and 2 locked. Canada has the Page 3 locked. USA can slam the door and lock the Page 4 if we beat both Scotland (we are down one without the hammer in the fourth as I type this) and beat Russia.
If Scotland hangs on to beat us, we can still force a tiebreaker with a win over Russia. That might also let the Swiss back into the playoffs if they can bounce back and beat Denmark in their last game.

Ouch! Scotland drops a 4 on us in the 4th.
Don't matter. We'll beat Russia to force a tiebreaker...we'll win the tiebreaker...we'll beat Canada in the Page 3v4...we'll then beat Sweden in the True Semi...then we'll lose to Scotland in the Finals.

That would be a downer! Beating Canada and Sweden, then losing to the Scots.

Dang, Alan...that's a good question.
Without doing math (where past years are have a decreasing percentage in value and the current year is added in at full value), I'll say that most of the nations threatening to pass the USA (Japan and Italy) are not going to pass us...no matter what happens in the last round robin games.
Russia, however, will pass us if we lose this last game.
We may, however, pass either Germany or Denmark or both...depending on the last games.
I'm thinking that our Olympic spot is already a lock...but math makes my brain hurt.

Worst case for the US is 8th which is 5 points for a total of 13. Russia would equal or pass us but it doesn't matter as they are hosts. Denmark's best case is 5th via tie-break which would tie us but the tie would be for 5th and 6th spots in Olympic points which qualifies. China, Germany, Italy, and Japan cannot catch us. We are in if my math is right. Looks like Denmark, Germany, China, and Korea all could be in or out in the 6th and 7th spots depending on how the games go in the final draw.

US gets the TB bye and will play winner of RUS - SUI. Means they finish 5th at worst and no problem making the Olys. So one thing down, now lets go win a medal!

I know, I know, you Americans aren't listening. That might be why I was being mocked earlier for assuming Canada would beat Japan today. The game wasn't even competitive.
Get a sense of humour.

Either Head to Head within the three teams, or the Draw Shot Challenge, those are the allowed tiebreakers for determining tiebreaker seeding according to the Book o Rules.
In this case, since it appears all teams went 1-1 within the threesome, I'm betting all of the money I'm winning on Sean Murray's performance in US Mixed Nats that it was the Draw Shot Challenge.

Russia changed their lineup at the fifth end break???
It worked in the short term...they got back into the game...but I wonder what it does to the team in the long term. I wonder both about next year and about tomorrow.
I don't see how Russia recovers from the last five games and beats a Swiss team that did well in the cash spiels and did well in the European Championships. Then again, I don't see how the Swiss come back from a disappointing round robin that saw them lose to Latvia.
I think the Swiss win. Either way, I like our chances in the tiebreaker.
Ben Tucker
Hoping that tomorrow is a great day...and I think it will be

Universal is promising to cover Worlds 8am Saturday (ET), the bronze medal game (3am Sunday Eastern Time Zone) and the gold medal (8am Sunday ET). They appear to promise at least the two 8am games to be available on-air AND on-line.
Is it possible that Universal won't suck? I have my doubts, but I'll be giving them another try.

In reference to Debbie McCormick's Saskatchewan heritage, she will be happy to know that if you have even breathed a speck of pure, Saskatchewan dust, Prime Minister Stephen Harper may feel inclined to appoint you to the Senate. Where you currently reside makes no difference, although it might be a good idea to buy a lakefront vacation home here in God's country to secure your appointment.
GO USA! (Wishing for a USA-Canada final. It is very boring here in camp, and the best part of my week has been the sometimes cordial, but not always back and forth between the nations. Thank you so much.)
