Gotta agree with Ott-am.
Jen Jones is charting a course towards one of the best winning records in the history of Canadian curling. 5 national titles, Olympic Gold, World Gold, 11 Slams. This is very much in the conversation with the records of Martin and Howard. She is also of course not done yet.
Meanwhile Team Homan given their age is ahead of anybody's curve in terms of national titles and Slams.
Team Sweeting is also a strong third. Carey and Rocque also have the potential at the very least to breakthrough. Seems to me that women's curling in Canada is in very good hands.
What I will agree with is that the 'standard' as they say in snooker - for whatever reason. Has not been where we might expect this week.

I agree with Vic Rauter Lorraine Lang must have laid down the law between games
Ashley Sippala looks like her confidence is completely shot ..Einarson should have played the freeze instead of the runback on her 1st shot in the 4th.. She must hate drawing. A few times in this tournament she has passed up very makeable draws and freezes to attempt runbacks

I don't think womens curling is "weak" so to speak. However it's been an odd season with the whole #broomgate issue. Directional sweeping can really be an equalizer, teams with deadly accurate line and weight no longer had that as an advantage as hair heads proved to be a great tool, so several teams were able to get out of their provinces. Not to say they aren't good and deserving ; they made it out of their provinces. However the field may seem weaker as each provincals championship was "equalized" by the hair...and now even with directional sweeping the top teams seem to be hanging at the top now that hair and hardline are gone. Synthetic can control direction a bit but not nearly to the effect the other 2 brooms could.

Weak field
On a curling site, it is like preaching to the choir. We are all interested in curling. We attended the Scotties in Red Deer. In a big mall one day, I mentioned to a young sales girl that the Scotties was in town. She replied "what is the Scotties?" curiosity peaked, I went from store to store with the same comment. Probably 60% answered the same, 25% said basically "who cares", and the rest said" I might attend" For a whole lot of reasons most young people just don't care about curling, ant that is why there is no Depth in women's curling

That game will no doubt determine who will be forced into relegation next year.
I haven't been watching these two teams closely, but from what I can remember, NB has let a couple of games slip away. A very sad performance by BC in back to back Scotties. They seem to be a force year in and year out at the Canadian Junior Ladies Championship but that success isn't transferring into the ladies ranks.

the relegation looks down to new brunswick v.s british columbia. it'll likely come down to who beats the other one when they play. this is pretty worrying for BC. 2 years in a row at the bottom of the table and possibly 2 years in a row relegated.
just hoping quebec can win their last 3 now but at best i see them going 1-2.. 5-6 will be safe so i guess thats job done
northern ontario slipping . its the same old pattern for krista. start strong and fade at the end

I've been enjoying all the announcers at these games. I also like to hear what the players are saying when discussing their next shot. Some get a little chatty but that has to be better than not hearing any stories at all.

Helloo.
As a former poster of the year on this fine website I am allowed to slip on my green jacket, wave to the camera and shank one into the trees before I retreat back to the bar in shame.
This is that shank. (Dammit!)
Go Saskatchewan!

that loss to new brunswick really stings for quebec.in all likelihood that ends their playoff hopes
marie-france makes that shot for 4 in 6 and they likely win the match. its just seems like marie-france herself is struggling heavily here, she cant put 2 shots together.
she may now equal her worst ever result in a scotties which was 4-7 in 2008
final guess for top 4 is northern ontario, canada, manitoba and alberta now

In the NO-QB game:
The shot was already made before Brenda fell and touched the thrown rock. I would have thought that the opposing team would let the shot stay. I guess this is such a crucial game though and it really is up to N. ONT to make the call.

Curling has left Birt and Larouche ( and maybe Hanna) behind.
Lack of recent experience, playing time etc has taken its toll.

If Kerri Einarson ever gets a top level third, they will have a world class team. I have said that for 3 years. I don't care what percentage her current third has been throwing, she has ALWAYS missed the important shots.

Ditto Dino. Nice to see you out for the Scotties. No more cool jazz allowed - only funk fusion.

Have to agree, 2-3 cashspiels a year doesn't cut it anymore. If you want to be at the top, you gotta play the top starting around August...
