Strategy question
As a club curler I would like some input on Alberta's 8th end last rock call.
It appeared they were sitting one or it was very close. Why play the huge weight hit? Why not angle freeze to the Manitoba rock, and/or tap it back to sit 2? Manitoba looked a little tense so the shot Jones would have had was no gimme.
Instead, as we know, she jammed, Jones hits for 2.
What would you have called?

Looked like AB played for the force. Ironically, removing MB's last stone with a hit to sit 2 was the safest play. Val threw up-weight so the yellow would still spin out the side when it made contact with the back red. Unfortunately, it was a missed shot and the jam was the worst possible result.
Having said that, I liked the freeze if only to shrink the scoring area by two rocks. MB was always going to have the draw to the four for the force. But after going hard for steals over 6 ends and having MB on the run, rolling over and conceding the one seemed inconsistent. The freeze keeps up the fight. O
Of course, if the freeze bounced off or came up light, then we'd all be asking why she didn't simply hit to remove any chances of the duece . Anyway, that's my take on it.
Good curling!

Either call is right, if you make it. In theory the takeout is easier than the freeze. Half inch either way and the force is on. Corner tap/freeze possible steal of 2.
The shot that hurt Ab. was Sweetings first. It was 1'- 2' heavy.

Off to a bumpy start for both CAN and SASK. A whole week playing on this ice and draws are still being thrown to the back 12'. CAN looking for a steal has a hit and roll on a SASK corner guard to guard their own rock on the center line and the skip sweeps the guard out of play. Both teams already playing for the blank after 2nd stones thrown.

That's what I said. I'm questioning her decision... You have a rock on the center line near the button. You have a chance to guard it and make the opposition shot difficult. So you instead abandon your strategy after 2 rocks...

yeah but you know very well that rachel likes to to start with an open end
its not in her comfort zone to start all out aggressive.

In a not so zzzzzzzzzzzzzz's game, in looking at the Scottish Curling Championship, the Ice Queen got 7 against one very lonely fawn and demolished that team 16-7!

You do realize the score was 9-6 with 2 end to go. 7 doesn't mean a thing. Now 8 would have been something

How often you read about a 7 ender even in the beer leagues? Have fun finding the stats on that.

Don't read about it cuz it's not a big deal.
Now if Eve was down 6 and got 7, that's news.
One thing I do find peculiar is the playoffs. 3rd place gets a "bye" kind of. 1st plays 2nd and loser plays 3rd.... hmmmm.
This means that 1st has to beat 2nd or 3rd twice.
2nd or 3rd only have to beat 1st once.

After CAN 2nd got them into deep doodoo with a heavy draw biting back 12, Rachel makes an absolute clutch shot with her first. SASK heavy on a draw, doesn't think on their feet, where a rub on their own rock would have handcuffed CAN and Rachel draws for 2. A fun end to watch.

SK playing a wonderful game, but I HATE when teams just volunteer to give up a 2 because they are ahead in the match. SK in the 8th end just did this. They are still in slight control being tied with hammer in 9, but if SK actually plays the 8th end instead of 'conceding' a 2, they could be in complete control if they forced CAN to 1 (or stole).
Playing not to lose vs. playing to win.

Anecdotally, I've seen a 7ender twice in our Tuesday night league this season alone (thankfully, on sheets next to us, rather than against us).

First 2 behind the tee line, jam a peel and hog a rock... hard to imagine a worse first four rocks for a team up by 2 coming home.
