Cameras over house

Our club is looking to install cameras over the house on each of our sheets on the far end of the viewing area. We want to do the job ourselves and plan to hook each camera up to a 20" TV. Does anyone have any suggestions to what kind of cameras we should get?

Security cameras are typically your most affordable option. Essentially you'd be running a security system and hooking up the cameras to the monitors. You might want to contact a local company who does this and they could likely give you the best options for it.

You can also purchase a system at a local electronics store and do it yourself if you're got the technical experience and/or the patience to work out the bugs.

All you need for every sheet is:

- PoE IP security cam with the right angle.
- Monitor mounted 90 rotated
- Raspberry Pi and free software
- 50-100m Network cable cat.6
- HDMI cable 1m
- electric connection

If there are some people in your club with the knowledge to setup the system, this will be a cheap HD solution.

Make sure you install TV screens in front of the house so both players and fans behind the glass can see them. Bigger is better.Install TV screens on the side so that guards in front of the house can be seen.

Check with Denver, Phoenix, Charlotte, Nutmeg and Triangle. All clubs that installed a camera system in the last year. Edited to add Norfolk (CT) as well.

Our club bought used color security cameras for both over the house and for end-of-sheet view for webstreaming. We used member expertise to wire them into our video distribution system. Monitors (TV sets) were donated by a local store. With some ingenuity, you can add the house camera views to your web-streaming using a video switching box.

See the blog post describing the video system at Evergreen CC in Portland, OR (http://blog.evergreencurling.com/?p=1564 ). It links to an additional ustream blog post that provides many technical details.

If you're working on a tight budget, this is what I would recommend. Anyone with an IT background at your club would easily be able to set it up.
