New Fiction Curling Novel
Ran across a great new mystery novel available at Amazon.com, Twelve-Foot Circle. The writer threads a decades-old curling championship match throughout the book as the mystery unfolds. The book isn't about curling, but the story is set in the world of small town curling clubs throughout the Midwest U.S. Unique approach, very recognizable setting and great characters. From what I can tell, it is only available in e-version, for Kindle, Nook or tablets with the right reader app.

I bought Twelve-Foot Circle for my Nook. Nook says it is 548 pages and I am now up to page 107. Not a very exciting start to the book, still waiting for something to happen before I give up on it. Caveat emptor.

I agree, the beginning of the book seems to be all about developing the setting and the character. Once some clues start falling into place, though, the story takes off. Stick with it. As I said, though, the story really isn't about curling, and it never turns into an action thriller. It's about a guy involved in a serial killer mystery while searching for clues about his father and his family past. But it is interesting that curling is the backdrop for the story. I thought that was a very creative approach.

Oops, I wanted to add this -- The author doesn't take any shortcuts. It's a full-length novel, not just a quick murder mystery. The story takes place in the dead of winter, which adds to the dark tone that builds throughout -- which I always think is intriguing, but it may not be for everyone.

Don't know. Probably the publisher or the author, since it just came out in late March or early April. Not sure if you are serious, Jim, or just joking about it. As I was reading it, though, I thought the general story line would make a good movie for a December release. Starts out just after Christmas, etc.
