Topic Review (Newest First)
RockDoc Thicker sliders are faster. We put our new curlers on a minimum 5/32" slider in curling school. Faster sliders mean less effort and more control of shots. Go for the 1/4" thickness.

The holes will make the sliders faster (less friction). They do make a difference.

Hinged sliders can be useful, not just for delivery (if you are a toe slider), but also for sweeping allowing your slider shoe to flex. I find solid sliders too stiff for sweeping.

Cheers.
curler bill The best thing you can do for yourself is to find a retailer that has ice for you to try the various sliders on ice. Get a feel for them for the purpose you need them.

If you play front end and sweep with two grippers - the hinged sole is a lot more comfortable. The quality of the BP Delux will provide plenty of stability for your delivery.
JustAnotherHack Well, to quickly break it down...

Generally the thicker the slider, the faster. 1/4" is the typical thickness for sliders for most experienced curlers, but some folks like the 3/16" as it might give you a bit more control (especially if you're still working on balance).

The extra holes in the toe and heel goes with the theory that the sole of your shoes presses out slightly at the balls of your feet and the middle of your heel (the primary points of contact of your foot to the ground). The "hole" in the slider (which for Balance Plus is more of a divot rather than a hole) should, in theory, allow the shoe to be "flat" on the ice, and provide a little more stability and speed.

*shrug* I'm not sure really how much of a difference it makes, but I use a donut (ring) slider on my Asham shoes, and I wouldn't go back.

A hinged slider has a break in the slider between the front and back of the shoe. It gives a lot more flexibility in the sole of the sliding shoe. If you're a toe slider, this is the way to go, but even if you're not, I like the hinged slider as I tend to go up on my toes when I sweep, and having more flexibility in my shoe makes it easier to do so.

Again though, it's a personal preference thing. If you like a one-piece slider, stick with it.

Hope that helps...
ale I am going to buy new BalancePlus Delux, but I am not sure on different type of sliders.

There are several option to choose:

- Standard one
- Extra Hole in toe and heel
- Hinged for flex, extra hole in heel and toe

combined with
- 1/4"
- 3/16"

the price differences are not low and I would like to make the best choice for several seasons.

I think I would prefer not hinged ones (now I am playing with Balance 200) to keep my way of slipping but I also would like to know opinions from other players
