Gerry The Ontario Junior Curling Tour announces exciting changes to the 2017 OJCT Tour Championship for the 2016/17 season

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, Ontario July 29, 2016 The Ontario Junior Curling Tour is excited to announce changes to its annual Tour Championship for the 2016/17.
Operating since the 2004/2005 curling season, the annual Tour Championship has given the opportunity to teams who have participated in events on the Ontario Junior Curling Tour, to compete against the best teams on the Tour based on their points earned in a during the year in a season ending event, the Tour Championship.

The annual Tour Championship for the Sid Wilson Memorial Cup has been a core part of the OJCT since the Tours inception and we are pleased to continue it for this coming season while making some exciting changes in date, location and outcome for the winners, said Matt Wilkinson, Chairperson of the Ontario Junior Curling Tour. The Tour represents the best opportunities for youth curlers to develop in a competitive curling environment. Continuing our effort to offer an event representative of the best curlers on Tour for the best curlers on the Tour only makes sense.

The key changes that will be made for this upcoming year include:
The date of this years Tour Championship will move from its traditional early February timeslot to January 14 & 15, 2017. This timeframe aligns better with the new U21 and U18 competitive calendar implemented this year and the additional event opportunities for both U21 and U18 teams later in the year
With great appreciation to the Peterborough Curling Club for its many years as host of the Tour Championship, this year our host will be the Galt Country Club. The Galt Country Club recently celebrated its 50th anniversary of curling in the 2015-2016 season and was host of the 2016 Boys & Girls Bantam Provincial Championships. It is also the home club of Jim Armstrong, 2010 & 2014 Paralympic Gold Medalist
Partnering with new OJCT event partner, the Junior Slam Series, the mens and womens winners of the 2016-17 Tour Championships will receive an automatic entry into the U21 Players Championship, March 31 April 2, and be the tours representative at an event which will pit the Tours champions against some of the best teams in North America and beyond.
Further announcements will come shortly on the qualifying events and points structure for the 2016-17 Tour Championships.

For more information, please contact OJCT Tour Chairperson, Matt Wilkinson at matt_wilkinson1@hotmail.com
