Curling on TV During This Hiatus
With there being no live curling for what looks like the remainder of the season, the Canadian sports networks have begun to televise past curling events. But they are televising Grand Slam and Brier/Scotties games from a few months/weeks ago, World Championships from last year, etc...
This is not good. These things are still quite fresh in everyone's memory, as they are so recent. This is not interesting!
It would be so much better if they televised games from 10, 15, even 30 years ago or more. Then we could see players we haven't seen in a long time. For those of us who have followed curling for some years, it would bring back a flood of nice memories to see The Wrench, to hear Russ out-yelling everyone within 4 city blocks... to see Coleen do something other than the weather, and it would warm the heart to see Schmirler the Curler again...
And for those new to curling, it would be a wonderful history lesson to see Hackner and Lang and Ryan and Folk and Lukowich... to see Hemmings ham it up at the Brier... to see Laliberte and Houston, and Marilyn before she was Bodogh...
These sports networks are doing the same boring thing of replaying recent games/matches/tournaments from other sports, as well - tennis, golf, auto racing, hockey, baseball soon, as well, no doubt...
What a complete lack of imagination! Surely they can obtain the rights to air old stuff - the networks likely even hold some of the rights themselves already.
What's happening because of the virus is obviously very unfortunate. It's also unfortunate that while we can't watch any live sports, the sports networks are not taking advantage of the circumstance to do something more creative than to air last month's events.
They have gold to give - but they offer only copper.

Have to completely agree with you, furthermore, having to watch Carey and her team over and over during this period is actually cruel and unsual punishment. At least pick a repeat where we (Canada) has a competitive chance.

I think the Olympics own the rights to these and all games in all sports, so not likely to be shown in full. Usually just still pictures

You want nostalgia?
Go to YouTube and search out SCTV Monday Night Curling.
A belly laugh from yesteryear when a slight chuckle is the best medicine.

I've watched a few of these games now from last year's women's world's and you can just feel the demise of Team Carey then, let alone after this season. Lots of discussion about strategy, with many under the breath disagreements. All team members struggled with the ice, especially weight, regardless of what the over inflated % says. Their whole 2 years together can be summed up by the Canada US game. In control and up 6-3 only to start questioning everything from ice to weight to calls and lose 13-6. There was a huge wall at far end, and the writing was all over it.
Too bad really. They were a good team.

Watched the 2018 Women’s worlds, great games. Now will someone show the 2014 Olympic curling games?

That is great news about TSN and showing older classic games! Would be nice if Sportsnet could do the same with the Slams.

^ Looking forward to that.
Much better than repeating games from the past couple of years.

Games from 2013 is a start, I suppose... but I'd rather see teams that no longer exist, as those teams and games are far less fresh in our memories.
They need to go back at least another 8 or 10 years (or more) from 2013.

It's interesting watching these games from 2013 (on TSN 1 now)... 2013 is not very long ago, but the difference between then and now is significant - because of the sweeping.
We see hair brooms, different colour pads on brooms...
We hear the call "Needs to curl" as the rock is travelling, and see the sweepers completely lay off and hope it curls enough. Today, they'd try to carve the hell out of it.
Similarly, there is no switching of sweepers in terms of who takes the rock... You don't see just one sweeper sweeping - it's either both or none...
Players are swapping brooms - something not allowed today...
Hell, the broom handles are not even all colour co-ordinated to team/provincial colours.
Lastly, they all seemed to have noticeably more hair - and not only on their brooms!

^ Thanks for the schedule...
But I sure wish they'd go back more than 10 years. TSN has stuff in their vault - from their own broadcasts - from much further back than that.

Cancelling ten
I'm with Bell..I talked to them about some discount for the current lack of sports broadcasting but they are not interested so I am going to cancel (TSN and Sportsnet) cost upwards of $25 per month. Seems strange to be cutting back on tv channels at this time but seems like a waste of money to keep paying

I've been in touch with my cable provider. eastlink. The CEO sent a message to all yada yada we're doing what we can in these tough times........ to which I replied nice to have 30 useless trial channels, but how about boosting the broadband signal for ALL. So many people at home streaming Netflix etc that cable internet at times is like the old aol dial up
No reply yet.
Signed, bitter at home.
