Einarson's Three-Handed Squad into Playoffs
![]() Gimil's Kerri Einarson (photo: Michael Burns, Curling Canada) squeaked into Monday's Saville Shootout quarterfinals with a 3-2 record. With Shannon Birchard away for the weekend, Einarson entered the Saville Shootout hosted by the Saville Community Sports Centre with a three-player team featuring Val Sweeting and Krysten Karwacki. The team sometimes looked shaky, opening with a 9-6 loss to Gracelyn Richards of Edmonton. Einarson won 6-0 over Corryn Brown of Kamloops in their second game on Friday to get a split on opening day. In their lone game on Saturday, Einarson followed up with a 7-5 win over Taylor Reece-Hansen of Victoria, winners of last week's U25 NextGen Curling Classic held at the same venue. Starting again Sunday morning, Einarson dropped to 2-2 with a 5-3 loss to Edmonton's Myla Plett, though bounced by with a 9-3 win over Selena Sturmay of Edmonton. Einarson's finished in a four-way tie for first place in their pool, with three other teams at 3-2. Einarson's wins over Reese-Hansen and Sturmay advanced them into the playoff round along with Plett due to their 2-1 records amongst the tied teams. Plett, due to their win over Einarson, takes the top seed in Pool A, while Einarson advanced to the second seed and is set to face the undefeated Ikue Kitazawa of Japan in Monday's quarterfinals. Kitazawa completed their run through qualifying wiht a 6-5 win over Regina's Jolene Campbell on Sunday evening. On the same half of the playoff bracket, Plett takes on Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa, while Winnipeg's Kaitlyn Lawes plays Gracelyn Richards of Edmonton and Korea's Eun-ji Gim plays Momoha Tabata of Japan. Monday's championship final goes at 3:30 pm Mountain Time, with all game available to watch through CurlingZone's YouTube channel. |
